Gordon Bennett

edit

Why no mention of the cultural impact, the term "Gordon Bennett" is a profanity in the UK? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.192.81.201 (talk) 22:51, 5 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

References for medals awarded

edit

G'day, I'm in the process of expanding and referencing this article with a view to possibly taking it to WP:GAN. I haven't yet been able to find references for some of the medals that are listed on the article: 1914–15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, 1939–1945 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal 1939–1945, Australia Service Medal 1939–45, King George V Silver Jubilee Medal, King George VI Coronation Medal, and the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal. Is anyone able to provide references for these? I also note that the ribbon bar in the Honours and awards section looks different to the one depicted on the portrait in the infobox (both in terms of shape and the medals depicted: for instance the final one in the portrait looks like the Order of Danilo, which isn't presented on the ribbon bar that has been created, so I'm a bit concerned about accuracy). If references can't be found, I think the ribbon bar and table should be removed. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 10:27, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Personally I would just include the notable awards in the body of the text with a reference and bin medal ribbons altogether. Especially so if refs cannot be found. Anotherclown (talk) 11:42, 22 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I think I've mentioned all the notable awards in the body of the article now. I still haven't been able to find any refs for the medals listed above. I will wait a couple more days for other interested editors to look for references, but if none are forthcoming, I think the ribbon bar and table should be removed as it will be impossible for the article to achieve a higher rating without adequate sourcing and while there is inconsistency between the portrait and the ribbon bar. Yep, no arguments from me. Anotherclown (talk) 09:02, 23 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I have removed this now as I still haven't been able to find refs, and no one has objected. If there are any concerns, please let me know. I'm happy to restore the images/section if reliable sources can be founded. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 10:22, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
