@ZFT: I think Lyne means pond or loch in Gealic, so that would have been owned by laird of some type at some point. As time passed likely built some houses for his workers that became a village, some other laird next door also built some house for his workers became a village. As water is important for cattle, sheep, ducks, horses and so on, the growth of the villages would have been close to an available water source as part of the common land, and eventually they would merge and names got simpler as time passed. scope_creepTalk 10:21, 18 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
