100% Owner

"100% owner of Burns Philp and Carter Holt Harvey" <--- is that correct? --Zephirum 04:34, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Something wrong here...

edit

According to the article, Hart was "born in 1955" and "lives in Auckland with his wife of 43 years". Unless he married when he was 12, there's something wrong there... is it meant to say that his wife is aged 43? Grutness...wha? 02:36, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not appropriate for an encyclopedia

edit

I came across this citation while looking up something else. Struck me as inappropriate.

"No fight is too small for Hart who is known to spend his time and prowess often fighting small disputes. In March 2008, an area of 1000 square meters which included protected native trees was cleared on Hart's Waiheke Island estate. Following a complaint, authorities investigated and a fine of NZ$300 was imposed, which Hart is disputing and has not paid.[8]"

The first sentence makes a claim not supported by facts, and questionable in an encyclopaedia. How does the author know that Hart is known to spend his time and prowess fighting small disputes? This sounds most unlikely, and it is far more likely that if he was involved at all, it was to instruct a lawyer to deal with the matter.

The second sentence calls it an estate, when in fact the Harts are reported to own a farm through a trust, run by a farm manager. The matter reported in the local papers says it was a paper road, not "an area" and it was cleared to allow the road to be used. The amount of the fine suggests that this was an administrative infraction, as opposed to a punishment. Just because an administrative unit of government sends out a "fine" does not mean that there was a trial and conviction.

The last sentence is time sensitive and would need to be checked at the district council.

A dispute between a person and a local government is not unusual, and a dispassionate person must ask if this entry is encyclopedic information and if it maintains a neutral, unbiased point of view. It reads like gossip, schadenfreude (look it up) by someone who disapproves of extreme wealth and personal success. Quoting the New Zealand Herald is not a reliable source to justify a Wikipedia posting, since the Herald is known to sell papers through publication of what would be known as gossip, schadenfreude and tall poppy syndrome.

For these reasons, I am removing the section, and invite anyone wanting to put it back to explain why in this talk section Akonga (talk) 05:17, 14 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 22:36, 24 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
