Etymology
editMerriam-Webster says this is from Polish grzegarz, "rattle", but there is no such Polish word with this meaning (What you see "Gregarz" in google is a variant/corruption of the name Grzegorz). The closest one is pl:grzechotka, "rattle", from "grezechot"/"grzechotac" (noun/verb). Ratchet (musical instrument) is pl:Terkotka. Loew Galitz (talk) 20:36, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
