The article begins by calling him “Graham Armitage”, but the box says his name at birth was “Edgar Harvey Armitage”; it continues, “Armitage was born in Blackpool in Lancashire, the son of Albert Edward Armitage (1908–1959) and Isabel W. née Bailes (1909–). In 1947 Harvey left the UK with his family, flying to South Africa” - who is “Harvey”? Are we to take it that for whatever reason he was known as “Harvey” rather than “Edgar”, and that “Graham” was but a stage name? This should be explained if known. Would it not be even more encyclopædic to call him “Armitage” throughout? Further on, it says, ”During 1952 Harvey wrote the entrance exam for late entry to Dartmouth Naval College.” This sounds like he compiled the examination paper, rather than sat the exam - is it a technical term to say “wrote” rather than “sat”? It mentions that he was married in Rhodesia in 1955 before it tells us that he graduated from RADA in 1952 (which was apparently when he also was in Southern Rhodesia applying to Dartmouth). If the dates could be clarified, and the periods when he was in Southern Rhodesia, Britain and South Africa made more apparent, it would help to make things better. Did he travel regularly back and forth, did he maintain a residence in the UK (the fact that he had a twenty year career in TV suggests it was so, as South Africa didn’t have TV until the late sixtie or even seventies, and the shows listed are British)?
