editIn 'outside cricket', this sentence is incorrect or misleading "In the mid-1990s Gooch began promoting hair transplants" - Gooch doesn't promote hair transplants. It's a type of wig (although they don't call it that) - hair transplantation is surgery, and the company that Gooch promotes don't do that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.72.216.213 (talk) 14:08, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
- The material describing the rebel tour of South Africa seems to conflate two different English rebel tours. Gooch was a member of the 1981 rebel tour party. The decription of the protests and the unbanning of the ANC took place during (and in response to) a subsequent rebel tour in 1988, captained by Mike Gatting. Gooch was not a member of this rebel touring party. 195.152.219.3 14:11, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
As noted above, the material relating to the rebel tours of SA is hopelessly factually mangled, plus it is obviously not NPOV. I have therefore removed most of it. Scholiwiki 16:52, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- In dead matches he could sometimes be seen doing impressions of fellow professionals bowling styles.
Isn't it Gooch who is listed in one of Bill Frindall's books of records as "no-balled whilst impersonating J. E. Emburey" in a Test match? Loganberry (Talk) 9 July 2005 02:19 (UTC)
[1] was the match
- I think something should be put in about the spat with Gower. It is ironic that Gooch passed Gower as England's top run scorer, given that he was instrumental in ending Gower's career prematurely. Read Matthew Engel in 1993 and Peter Hayter in 1994 Wisdens for the contemporary strength of feeling in favour of Gower and against Gooch for those actions.
I think far more has to be written about Gooch's period of captaincy in the very early 1990s. We already have references to Gooch over training the squad but if you read "Playing with Fire" by Nasser Hussain, Gooch is defended as being ahead of his time. Whether or not people agree with this is another matter but what is inescapable is that players on those tours of 1990-91 and 1991-92 like Botham and Pringle have publicly stated (and I can provide references) that Gooch went too far and the players were tired as a result. This is the entire key to Gooch's "legacy": he was ahead of his time in training and fitness but went too far too quickly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.69.10.249 (talk) 14:16, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Added some detail on Gooch's career with Essex, including a number of county batting records he holds.

Structural amends
editI believe the structure needs changing. I'd suggest 1) Early years, 2) Rebel tour and ban 3)Later years 4) Coaching, both for Essex and England. Within all those sections should be references to all forms of the game, First Class, Test and ODI. - If anyone has any suggestions i'd happily respond or just make the changes. Huge amounts of Verbose, un-referenced paragraphs have been put into the content. I suggest these are deleted, as cleaning up and finding references will take an age. Googly75 (talk) 14:32, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Circumspect?
editI don't really understand the last sentence of the lead: "However he grew more circumspect through his career" What does that mean? Where's the connection to the sentences before that? And why is there no full stop at the end?--84.226.180.143 (talk) 19:32, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
