Separate articles?

Nuttyskin has commented that American grand lodges do not warrant separate articles on Wikipedia due to the fact that the ritual and procedural differences between the Northern and Southern Jurisdictions in the U.S. are not great enough. He argues that the ritual and procedural differences between individual lodges in Scotland are more numerous than in the whole U.S. I would first take issue with his premise. Whereas it is true that the G.L. of Scotland does permit greater autonomy among its lodges in making decisions regarding ritual and procedural matters, I believe that you will find greater diversity between the rituals and procedures of, say, lodges in Massachusetts and Hawaii, or between Vermont and Arizona. But more to the point, I would comment that these articles on individual grand lodges are not studies about different grand lodge "rituals and procedures," as Mr. Nuttyskin seems to maintain. Rather, they are about the individual histories of these grand lodges, as well as other pertinent information. Why that is not obvious to him is a mystery to me. Further, the fact that he seems to be unaware that "Northern and Southern Jurisdictions" refers to Scottish Rite jurisdictions, and that these have nothing to do with the 51 individual U.S. Craft grand lodges, betrays his unfamiliarity with the subject of American Freemasonry.PGNormand 19:37, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

I have cleaned up this article a bit. It contained many factual inaccuracies that I have corrected and for which I have added primary and secondary source references. Many of the claims that I eliminated are outdated and do not take into account primary sources discovered in the late 19th century! One of the factual inaccuracies is that the "Modern" Masons in Pennsylvania simply disappeared into thin air. The records of St. John's Lodge No. 2 clearly show that the "Moderns" were absorbed into the Ancient Provincial Grand Lodge and that this was a process beginning before the American Revolution. Another inaccuracy is the claim that Daniel Coxe didn't arrive in the Colonies until late 1731.
