Discography

edit

So, there is a discography here which seems to contain albums from Grandmaster Flash, and albums from Grandmaster Flash *and the Furious Five*. I can't speak with authority but it seems that the convention is usually to list the two separately, or to indicate "(with the [whatever group])" for non-solo albums.§ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olsdude (talkcontribs) 14:47, 16 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

GRANDMASTER FLASH is the best old school rapper next to the lengendary Sugar Hill gang

Why does 'Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five' redirect to 'Grandmaster Flash'? Shouldn't the group get their own page? - TydAmaNN58 April 12, 2006

Grandmaster Flash did rap! Ever hear of The Message. It is one of the most classical songs in Hip-hop history.

Where did Grandmaster Flash's family immigrate from?

  • Why doesn't the article mention Grandmaster Flash's freebase cocaine addiction? In the sleeve notes for "Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel" Box Set, I read that he was addicted around the time of the release of White Lines (Don't Do It). 62.254.189.92 09:04, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Bucktron 02/04/07Reply

This should have more about his influence on hip hop music. The message "The song's lyrics were some of the first in the genre of rap to talk about the struggles and the frustrations of living in the ghetto."--The Super Villain 02:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Grandmaster Flash/GF and the furious five

edit

Should Grandmaster Flash and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five not be seperate articles. Using the argument that one is a person, the other is a/his band? —Preceding unsigned comment added by NotoriousTF (talkcontribs) 05:48, 1 November 2007

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five do have their own article, but most of the content is the same. This article needs cleaned up to get rid of the redundancy. The redirect with the lowercase 't' in "the" was wrong, but I changed that to point to the group.

DJ Vanguard Award

edit

The rock and roll HOF page says: "January 2004: Grandmaster Flash receives the DJ Vanguard Award from Bill Gates for being the first to use turntables as musical instruments"

While it is possibly not true that he was exactly the first, he was certainly the first virtuoso, and it is true that he received this award. It should be mentioned.

Super Rappin

edit

dispute is on Supper Rappin. Should it be mentioned in article?--Realwords101 (talk) 13:38, 2 December 2010 (UTC) I mentioned super rappin because it was not mentioed in article but only Enjoy Records. http://books.google.com/books?id=ioKfAAAAMAAJ&q=Super+Rappin+1976&dq=Super+Rappin+1976&hl=en&ei=wpH3TO_JOsL7lwepyayNAg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7&ved=0CD4Q6AEwBg--Realwords101 (talk) 13:58, 2 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

"King" Grandmaster Flash?!

edit

Who put in that "King" thing? I guess GF has always been known as GF in the scene, hardly ever "King GF". Where do you guys take the "King" bit from? -andy 77.190.30.0 (talk) 07:57, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Slipmat

edit

The page says "He also invented the slipmat."

This is very unlikely, it was a device in use on music radio stations since the early 60s, also called a turntable mat, whereby the DJ would line the record up, that is, find the start of the record, wind back a bit and hold the mat so the record was stationary and at the right moment let the mat go so everthing was timed correctly and the record would come in at the required moment. Sometimes the needle would jump or the record wasn't wound back enough and the record could be heard getting up to speed this was called 'wowed in'as the listner heard the record slowly starting.

I souced a pic but I can't find a way of showing it - but if you google "BBC Radio 1 60s" (eventually) you will find several pictures of the jocks holding a piece of felt with the record on. There were other mats that sat proud of the turntable that you could pinch between your fingers and lt go at the right moment.

Here is a link to a photograph of DJ Tony Blackburn holding a slip mat/turntable mat.

Madison Square Garden

edit

It should be mentioned that Grand Master Flash opened at the Madison Square Garden in the early eighties, for a Commodores concert, with Bob Marley opening after him. 2A01:E0A:C07:9010:60:3AF7:2495:1472 (talk) 08:23, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
