editIf the Great North Run is the 2nd most popular half marathon -- what is the first? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.174.142.62 (talk) 12:26, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Göteborgsvarvet in Sweden. At the moment it is written that the Great North Run is the most popular half marathon, citing a two and a half year old source. Göteborgsvarvet has for year 2010 58,000 entrants, and after the race in May I will challenge the Great North Run ranking. --BIL (talk) 00:13, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
2010 participation
editI did a check on the number of finishers 2010. I searched results without critera and tried to select page 2000. This gave the last runner. He was at place 39457 with a time of 05:14:56. He had gender position 23102, while the last woman had overall position 39456, time 04:42:24 and gender position 16355. Can we based on this write that there were 39457 finishers? --BIL (talk) 21:02, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
No longer largest in the world?
editIt seems that the Great North Run is no longer the largest half marathon in the world.
The Göteborgsvarvet had over 64,000 participants in 2016 [1] as compared to the Great North Run's 57,000 [2]. But it would be nice to have some more exact numbers (and authoritative references) for both events in recent years. Can anyone help?
(Guinness World Records lists 41,615 people (finishers?) in 2014 for the GNR. But this is substantially fewer than the 47,491 finishers quoted on marathon.se for Göteborgsvarvet of the same year. I'm confused as to why Guinness would not have updated this without a good reason.) --David Edgar (talk) 14:48, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- Your edits seem reasonable. Most likely Guinness hasn't been paying attention. Confusion between 'entrants' and 'finishers' can sometimes be at play. It's not fully clear if the Gothenburg race gets more every year, but it seems to have got more runners in every year where we can compare the two. Anywikiuser (talk) 17:41, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Medal
editAm I okay to upload a pic of my GNR medal for the article? Would it pass copyright rules (I know rules on images are very strict) RoyalBlueStuey (talk) 08:14, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
