Overuse/Misuse of Images

edit

I just do a pretty big rearranging of images because this article was atrocious. Images were at 800px and centered; the first thing you saw were two panoramas that weren't even that high quality. You had to scroll down to actually reach the text. Someone from the area should go through the gallery and see what can be incorporated into the text and what should be removed entirely. Galleries really shouldn't have more than four or so images. If images warrant staying in an article, they should be surrounded by text. This article needs a lot of work to correctly and efficiently use images. ~ ωαdεstεr16«talkstalk» 00:37, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merge Omni (Miami) into here

edit

I have not found reliable sources that do more than support the existence of the Media and Entertain District (which is more commonly used than "Omni" for the area). I do not believe that there are reliable sources to support the notability for the Media and Entertainment District required for it to have its own article in Wikipedia. -- Donald Albury 10:07, 18 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I know the Miami DDA refers to the Omni as the Media and Entertainment District, but that's certainly not the colloquial name. The Omni article could be merged with the Downtown article, but in recent years, this neighborhood has begun to be referred to as its own; most often as Omni. Perhaps the Omni article should be expanded with more information and valid sources to justify having it, I think it's worthwhile. Thoughts? --Comayagua99 (talk) 17:29, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I most definitely agree with Comayagua99, the article should be expanded rather than merged. But then again, the Omni is rather apart of Downtown Miami. - Dwayne was here! 00:47, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I will begin adding any references and information I can find on Omni to expand it. --Comayagua99 (talk) 20:42, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I oppose the merge. Although I realize a few too many extraneous Miami articles have been created, this is not one. Omni really is a substantial, stand alone area apart from downtown, and is never refered to under the term "downtown," as are brickell and the "original" downtown and the area up to I-395. After that to the North it's not downtown anymore. It should not be hard to find sources for this. Daniel Christensen (talk) 16:29, 2 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
More: Whatever it's called, it should not be merged with downtown. Move it to "arts and entertainment district" or something. Something I found while writing the Port of Miami Tunnel article: "...this also hurts Miami's northern central business district's ability to grow, including it's new arts and entertainment district. I wrote that there, along with the majority of the article, but it came from this source: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/05/25/1646317/miami-cant-afford-to-have-port.html BTW it's a good article that I basically wrote alone, and it's on a construction project, so why can't these more glamourous, more cared about district-related and other Miami articles be a little higher quality? Daniel Christensen (talk) 18:10, 2 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
To continue this idea, I recently moved the page to Greater Downtown Miami, because that's what this really is, and made a separate article on the actual downtown core. When "downtown Miami" is used uncapitalized, it usually refers to the "real downtown", Downtown Miami is a brand. B137 (talk) 04:58, 4 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Parks

edit

Does anyone know about Fort Dallas Park? Specifically along the river between the River Park Hotel and the Riverwalk Metromover Station. From what I can make out the two old houses had been moved here from around Lummus Park. They are empty and completely fenced off, accessed only by homeless now. Why is it called "Fort Dallas Park"? Any history on this location? 1305cj (talk) 15:12, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
