System 1

edit

I thought intermodal tickets were administered by system 1 travel. Are they part of GMPTE or something? Plugwash 01:12, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Moving

edit

Dunno if it's worth mentioning, but the GMPTE offices which are currently near Piccadilly Gardens, next to the Thistle Hotel (I forget the street name), well they're moving to the building currently being erected directly outside Manchester Piccadilly's main entrance (not Fairfield Street), they're expected to start moving around October 2006.

It's 9 Portland Street, and more likely to be November/December but not into Christmas! ...from a GMPTE worker. Oh also, System 1 are issued by GMPTE.
Nope, it's 2 Piccadilly Place and the move was this month. My bf works for GMPTE. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TR Wolf (talkcontribs) 17:05, 24 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Glossop district

edit

Could the article require clarification of Glossop's role within GMPTE? I know too little to add details myself, but, is Glossop, Hadfield et al still not part of GMPTE's remit in the provision of rail services at least? Indeed, it is mentioned as being part of SELNEC but after 1974 it remained within Derbyshire with, I would assume, public transport co-ordination passing to Derby County Council. TfGME Requested move discussion

edit

Transferring over the discussion on the move of Transport for Greater Manchester Executive as it has relevance to the future of this article and that page will soon be deleted.

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: page moved per request and discussion below. - GTBacchus(talk) 06:32, 1 January 2011 (UTC) page restored. I mistakenly moved the page when the discussion below had resulted in a determination not to move it. -GTBacchus(talk) 09:03, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Transport for Greater Manchester ExecutiveTransport for Greater Manchester — The page was moved to an expanded form of the acronym of the original but this was incorrect in the first place as it is only part of the organisation and not its common name. --ChiZeroOne (talk) 01:44, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

    • It was kinda assumed by editors that when the name change occured the GMPTE page would be renamed and serve as the base of the article and a redirect put in place to catch links to its former name. WatcherZero (talk) 17:23, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah, so what you are saying is that this page was created in error? Now I understand the TfGM redirect. The main problem with that though is squeezing the GMPTE page into a "history" section of a TfGM article without losing info, could be done though. So instead of the move should the information on this page be transferred to GMPTE and this page deleted (not likely to be re-used)? ChiZeroOne (talk) 18:19, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I would agree to that, if there is any unique information here it should be transferred as well, for example the map is useful. WatcherZero (talk) 19:08, 12 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Was I who made the page. Huge apologies if it was in error, jumped the gun soemwhat. But happy for any move needed etc. :-) Sorry! Mapmark (talk) 21:30, 12 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry, it's not like there was an obvious discussion anywhere stating this was the plan. Error was maybe a bit strong, there are "accepted practices" but no one is expected to know them before editing. Pretty much anything on here can be changed/moved etc if need be, as long it is a useful addition it will probably be kept in some form.
Anyway, I'll leave this discussion open a little longer to see if there are any objections and then see about moving over the info to the GMPTE page. ChiZeroOne (talk) 00:35, 13 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Problem

edit

The line,

Although it will differ in certain structural forms, on the day of its inauguration TfGM will become the second most powerful and influential transport organisation in England after Transport for London because it will unite previously splintered governance over transport policy in the boroughs under one body.

Doesn't quite make sense because it is the GMCA that will unite transport governance, not TfGM.

The plans to create the GMCA mean that it will become the local transport authority (as it will legally be a local authority) which will then delegate those functions to the TfGMC, a joint-board between the GMCA and the boroughs. TfGM will be the GMCA's (via the TfGMC proxy) executive arm. ChiZeroOne (talk) 06:44, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is the same as London, Transport for London is the excecutive agency of the Greater London Authority (GLA). --WatcherZero 14:18, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Indeed that's true. I'm just not sure how to change the above sentence so it accurately conveys what's happening. TfGM will have more responsibilities than any other transport body after TfL, but it is the GMCA with the powers/influence and the one "uniting previously splintered governance". ChiZeroOne (talk) 00:49, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
TfGM through the creation of the GMCA becomes the.....? WatcherZero (talk) 00:51, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

TfGM/GMPTE

edit

Why does this need to be it’s own article? TfGM is simply a rebrand of GMPTE, they are the same organisation and legal entity. This isn’t the same story as what has occurred in London or with Transport for West Midlands and West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive? I would suggest that Transport for Greater Manchester should be expanded with GMPTE history - as they are essentially the same entity it doesn’t warrant its own article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sammich28 (talkcontribs) 22:15, 29 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
