Real or not
editUm...is this guy for real? Revolutionary/philanthropist/mobster/singer/author? I don't believe it. Sorry, guys, it's just a little too over the top. --- Unsigned comment by 71.122.250.69, March 2007. Anythingyouwant (talk) 18:15, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes - he is for real.... really. --- Unsigned comment by 64.254.232.228, May 2007. Anythingyouwant (talk) 18:20, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

BLP
editA claim was made on the page that the subject disapproves of the article, however, it seems to largely reiterate points made on his own official pointlist biography, so I don't know where this stands. As it currently reads, the article is in need of improved sourcing and verification. Orderinchaos 09:01, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- This article has been stubbified in response to VRTS ticket # 2007090910006771. Please consult with an OTRS user before undertaking any major expansions of/modifications to the article. - Mark 03:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Could more details on this be provided? Otherwise I will start re-adding content. Sfacets 13:29, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- So long as the content is fully sourced/cited in accordance with WP:BLP it should be fine to add back. The gist of that OTRS ticket was a complaint about defamatory lies added to the article. - Mark 02:33, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
So it is fine to add back/add sourced material now? Sfacets 03:03, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I think it should be fine, though I place emphasis on sourcing everything you add (even if it seems uncontroversial). :) - Mark 10:06, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Francoise Sturdza
editI removed the words "Swiss princess" next to Ms. Sturdza. There is no such thing as a Swiss princess. It seems Ms. Sturdza likes to call herself that. The most relevant source provided was a Hindustan Times article, which actually puts quotes around the term, and handles it with more than a grain of salt ("does it matter?" is GDB quoted replying in that source).
For the record, Sturdza is not a even name of Swiss origin. There is indeed a Sturdza living in Switzerland who affects to give himself the title "prince" in some circumstances, just like anybody is allowed to introduce himself as "master of the universe".128.178.14.162 (talk) 07:11, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
This is incorrect there were Swiss Princes the Princes of Neufchatel most notably. Francoise Sturdza is from Switzerland and has a reason to call herself Princess. She is a citizen of Switzerland and a Princess of the Romanian House of Sturdza which is an Ottoman Turkish creation. Under the Turks two parts of what is now the country of Romania Moldavia and Wallachia and their tax collection were leased to the highest bidder on regular intervals. The winning bidder was declared Prince with the title remaining usable by the winner and their heirs indefinitely. The Sturdza family is one of the houses whose title shares this originRichardBond (talk) 02:36, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Occupation
editThe subject is clearly a novelist, heroin smuggler, Indian mafiaosa, bank robber and possibly now charity organiser. To call him a philsopher or poet implies he has published or made a living from it. Cod philosophy maybe but this is no career. Indeed he spent his life from pre 1980 (aged under 28 to 1995 (43) either committing crimes or paying for them in prison. Boils (talk) 09:59, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Novel used as reference
editThis article mentions the author's book Shantaram as a reference. It would be better if it is mentioned as Further Reading since the book is a novel, and not an autobiography. Sections of the article seem to be lifted right of situations mentioned in the book, which could have been fictional.Shravan.Iyer (talk) 05:21, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Please remove the article!
editOn the official website Gregory David Roberts himself asks to delete all the information about him in the internet (especially wikipedia). As the letter say he made a decision to leave public life. Now he want readers to value his works and pay no attention to his personality at all.
Who and how can do it?..
We need to respect his privacy and decisions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.26.88.54 (talk) 23:50, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
As much as he may want to leave, he is in the archives. Deleting this page won't remove previous copies from the Internet Archive and other locations.
Personally, he is a public figure and, as such, can not expect his request to be honored.
I trust there is a wiki board policy on this matter -- he certainly can't be the first one to want to vanish from sight. While wiki tries hard to control information submitted about public figures (proved facts, no trash or opinions), I doubt policy allows removal enough to dig into it. HiTechHiTouch (talk) 04:20, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
A quick trip over to http://www.shantaram.com/ shows a letter about David going into seclusion. No where does it ask that information on the internet be deleted. It only says that he has stopped using social media (Twitter, Facebook, et at). HiTechHiTouch (talk) 04:27, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your answers. Once again to prove my words..
"I leave the public world with a happy heart, knowing that it's the song not the singer that endures. If there's anyone out there who knows how to delete stuff from the internet legally and without compromising anyone's copyright, I'd appreciate it if you'd delete any pictures and film of me or references to me from the internet, especially deleting me from Wikipedia, leaving only my work. It would be very nice, to be erased from cyberspace, because it's not about me: it's about the art." (main page on his official website, when you enter it first time).
PS Sorry for mistakes, I'm from Moscow.
- If Roberts really wants to get out of the public eye, he should stop doing noteworthy things like writing high-profile novels. Otherwise, try reincarnation. --Dawud

Reason for name change
editIt would be interesting to know why he changed his name, from Gregory John Peter Smith to Gregory David Roberts. - yoyo (talk) 05:50, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
