Goals
editHey! Just thought I'd move the chat onto here before straying into three revert territory.
Gregory Richardson has scored 18 goals for his country therefore that is what should be displayed. An amendment to indicate that Guadeloupe is not a FIFA member therefore not recognised as an official goal by FIFA can be input on the table but that is not how other football pages have been operating. For example, Robbie Keane scored several of his goals against Gibraltar which are not recognised by FIFA but are thought of as international goals by the Irish FA and therefore are listed within his infobox. There is a similar issue when it comes to official cap number but the way that it is displayed across Wikipedia is through each nation's acceptance of how many caps that player has achieved.

- Sorry but you're wrong. We only display officially sanctioned FIFA games, and NFT says he has 17 goals in 42 games. If other articles are wrong then they need fixing as well - please also see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. GiantSnowman 11:16, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Who's this we? The other examples that I can see on Wikipedia follow the rule as I've written it and a note mentioning this discrepancy can be provided in the table. Felixsv7 (talk) 11:24, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- We is the Wikipedia community. I have been editing football articles for over 14 years and trust me, you are wrong. Displaying the goal is misleading. GiantSnowman 11:29, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

- @GiantSnowman: Ok but just a few more examples:
Blas Pérez: http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/bperez-intlg.html and https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/5053/Blas_Perez.html
Bobby Moore: http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/moore-intl.html and https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/17943/Bobby_Moore.html
Peter Schmeichel: http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/schmeichel-intl.html and https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/13773/Peter_Schmeichel.html

- What's your point? I'm not saying NFT is perfect, I'm saying in the absence of any other sources which support the game/goal being in an official game, we use what the source says. GiantSnowman 11:37, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- My point is that despite these players participating in non-FIFA games, they are still listed on Wikipedia within their infobox - as the consensus seems to be based on the nation's assessment of cap/goal number therefore Richardson's goal against Guadeloupe (a non-FIFA member) should still be counted as he still scored that goal for his country. Felixsv7 (talk) 11:40, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- For Bobby Moore there is no non-FIFA game at listed at NFT; I suspect they have just missed or mis-counted one FIFA game... GiantSnowman 11:44, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- The reason is that England played a game against FIFA in 1963 which was initially counted as a proper cap by FIFA & England, then FIFA decided to no longer recognise it in 2001 but the English FA continues to do so. Felixsv7 (talk) 11:47, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

- @GiantSnowman: Please can you revert your reversion so that I don't fall foul of 3RR? Thanks. I have provided some further examples of the combination of the NFT FIFA & non-FIFA matches below:
Landon Donovan: https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/7101/Landon_Donovan.html & http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/donovan-intlg.html
Petr Čech: https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/1844/Petr_Cech.html & http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/cech-intl.html
Bryan Ruiz: https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/11848/Bryan_Ruiz.html & http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/cos-bruiz-intlg.html
John O'Shea: https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/3281/John_O_Shea.html & http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/oshea-intl.html
I'll add a note to identify the non-FIFA game should people question the discrepancy. Also, the current table is displaying only 15 goals. Felixsv7 (talk) 15:43, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Feel free to add goals 16 and 17. Goal 18 should NOT be added. GiantSnowman 15:55, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Pages are not using the method you describe. If a cap is recognised by the nation, there is no reason for it not to be listed on Wikipedia, as per all of the pages I've linked. Felixsv7 (talk) 16:15, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
