Unintelligible sentence

edit

The following sentence conveys no meaning to me:Platonic Forms were a ridiculous possibility and developed in to traditional narrative due to academic laziness. Can the person who wrote this sentence please clarify it?Lestrade 14:55, 19 September 2006 (UTC)LestradeReply

Suspicious

edit

Anonymous user 129.78.64.105 posted a comment on Vlastos's "A Metaphysical Paradox." In it, he uses the phrase "to his acclaim" as well as the words "ridiculous" and "laziness." These seem, to me, to be evaluative and are therefore results of the anonymous editor's point of view. If there is no objection, I will delete the passage.Lestrade 13:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC)LestradeReply

Vlastos's students - who?

edit

The article states: "Many of Vlastos's students have become important scholars of ancient philosophy." I'm curious as to who these scholars are. The statement may very well be true, but it's awfully hollow without any examples. Can anyone provide any? Ejectgoose 06:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as stub, and the rating on other projects was brought up to Stub class. BetacommandBot 04:04, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sources

edit

This article is lacking sources and might use a list of his published works.

See http://www.giffordlectures.org/Author.asp?AuthorID=172. Just incorporating that and overlaying a Wikipedia layout would do a lot for this article. Debresser (talk) 13:02, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I did some work on the article, including and formost a (partial) list of published works and Wikipedia layout. By the way, I see that I was wrong about the Gifford Lectures link. It did not contain anything new. Debresser (talk) 16:32, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I received a message (that I can not find), from some one asking me if Gregory Vlastos is one of the Vlastos family. The answer is YES. DNA tests have shown that ALL Vlastos around the world are one and the same family. Gregory has a son called Stephan (I spoke with him about 10 years ago, I think he is also a UNI Professor (like father like Son) and a daughter Maria.

That message was on the talk page of the article Vlastos which you wrote. As I said there, you might want to add a small paragraph about him inside that article as one of the notable member of that house. Debresser (talk) 09:44, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. I actually removed the "article" because there were a few that did not like it and I could not see any future. Some body else re-entered it. However, I have no plans to improve it. I am too old to argue with those with fixed ideas about how the world should look like. There are about 50 famous Vlastos and Gregory is one of them. With all respect to your age and erudition, it's not a matter of "people with fixed iseas anout hoe the world should look like". it's because this is the whole idea of Wikipedia: any article can be written and redacted by anybody, but within the parameters that have been defined by the Wikipedia community.
