It should be noted that "Grid network" is an overloaded term, with the emerging connotation being a large number of desktop computers contributing their screen saver time to accomplish a task requiring large computational resources. Instances of grid computing include projects such as SETI@Home (analyzing radio signals for communication from extra-terrestrials), GIMPS (searching for a particular class of prime numbers known as Mersenne primes), and the Oxford Anthrax search (searching for molecules which bind particularly well to the anthrax toxin, thus preventing the disease).
An alternative title for the "Grid network" page might be "Interconnection networks for parallel processing"

editI disagree with the description of the Grid Network presented in this wiki. It does not cover any aspect of the Grid and the networking needs of it. - I would concur with that characterization. Serious rewriting is needed. Kbrose (talk) 18:25, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

editGrid computing in common language today has changed. It has multiple meanings and continues to change. High Performance computing now interconnects with multidimensional or torus networks interconnections no longer analogous to a two D grid. Grid networks still exist inside semiconductors with many core because of the 2D nature of the chip nearest neighbor connectivity is constricted. Grid Computing according to the national science foundation publication is probably the best understood description. The Grid 2: Blueprint for a New Computing Infrastructure.
