House of Grimaldi/Rainier Grimaldi, pirate
editI removed the following from this disambiguation page
- Rainier Grimaldi, Ship Captain (some say pirate), founder of the Grimaldi Monaco dynasty, sacked Southampton (UK) in 1338, see House of Grimaldi above
It is not necessary to single him out on this page even if he is purported to be the founder of the dynasty.
The House of Grimaldi page has a Rainier I of Monaco (1267 - 1314) 'the first sovereign Grimaldi ruler of the area now known as Monaco.' Rainier's son Charles I of Monaco (died August 15, 1357), 'was the first true Lord of Monaco, and is thus widely considered the founder of the dynasty.'
This site http://madmonaco.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html states that it was Charles Grimaldi and Anthony Doria who 'appeared off Southampton spurred on by the promise of reward from the French admiral to whoever could penetrate the English defenses first. It was October 5, 1338 ...'
