From my recollection, the Grolier CD-ROM encyclopedia didn't use the term "multimedia" until after Compton's came out in 1990 or 1991. The text was available on pay services such as CompuServe and Delphi for an extra monthly or quarterly charge. It was available on Prodigy for no extra charge, which probably hastened the end of the extra charges on the other services. Also, the CD-ROM version was not called the "Academic American Encyclopedia". in 1990 the content was prepared at the Danbury, Connecticut HQ of Grolier.

I was using the Groiler Multimedia Encyclopedia on CD-ROM in the winter of 1994, so it debuted long before 1995. NitekMobilian (talk) 00:39, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
