What is the purpose of this article?
editThe name of the article is too generic. The combining of Soviet and post-Soviet units and formations in the article is redundant. Other then that, I see no reason for the article since Guard units are noted only for their individual awarding of the title that needs to be dealt with in the unit articles, since the Guard units were not significantly different from other field units and formations in other ways.--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♥♦♣ 01:07, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

MILHIST initial assessment
editI've assessed as start because there is the basis of structure, proper citation and relevant supporting media. However, Given the size of the subject, the content is skimpy and should be expanded. I have serious doubts about the title - this deals with only a very specific type of Soviet and Soviet-descended unit, whereas a casual user might expect to see a broader range of units through history even if only famous ones like British Guards or Napoleon's Old Guard. I would strongly recommend change for disambiguation.Monstrelet (talk) 18:32, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
