Cleanup concerns

edit

It's OK as an article, but please refer to Wikipedia:Manual of Style to Wikify it. For example, try not to link names within the main article directly to external websites. Use inline citations instead or a reference section at the bottom. Good luck. I've also noticed nobody has bothered formally welcoming you to Wikipedia. I will rectify that on your talk page now. :) Bubba hotep 12:30, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bubba - thanks for your comments and welcome. I'm VERY new to Wikipedia and am feeling my way around. Could you please explain these inline citations I should use? --Linda Hansen 12:49, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

If you take a look at the section "People with the Surname Gummery" – instead of putting the name of the person "inside" a link (as you originally did), put the link at the end of the sentence – example [http://www.website.com] – without adding any displayable text and it will create a numbered external link which people can click on to verify the info you had just stated in that paragraph. In-line citations are links in the main body of the article as opposed to separate external links at the bottom. Hope I haven't confused you too much. :) Anything else you need to know, I will try to help! Bubba hotep 12:58, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
By the way, you had already done an inline citation after the sentence "...but had spread to other industrial centres in the country..." - the numbered link is an inline citation, just don't label it with a name or anything. So I just taught you something you did know! Bubba hotep 13:01, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I get you !! Thanks. It's all a matter of understanding the terminology!! Linda Loosabelles 13:09, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Believe me, it's very easy to fall into the trap of using jargon! I've only been on here a few months, but you soon get the hang of it and find some really useful people to help. Bubba hotep 13:11, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Just corrected the Bayswater link to an internal link - a WikiLink, if you will. Bubba hotep 13:22, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
