General discussion of macrophages and HIV
editI've removed a chunk of the article which didn't seem directly relevant to tropism, but just generally discussed the role of macrophages in HIV. The removed material is copied below.
Indeed, macrophages play a key role in several critical aspects of HIV disease. They appear to be the first cells infected by HIV and perhaps the very source of HIV production when CD4+ cells are markedly depleted in the patient. Macrophages and microglial cells are the cells infected by HIV in the central nervous system. In tonsils and adenoids of HIV-infected patients, macrophages fuse into multinucleated giant cells that produce copious amounts of virus.

Dendritic cells (DC)
editI did the same with the dendritic cell part. The ref is over 20 years old and DC infection is still debated.
"HIV can also infect a subtype of dendritic cells,[3] MDC-1, which probably constitute a major reservoir that maintains infection when T helper cell numbers have declined to extremely low levels. ^ Knight, S. C., Macatonia, S. E. and Patterson, S. (1990). "HIV I infection of dendritic cells". Int. Rev. Immunol. 6 (2-3): 163–175. doi:10.3109/08830189009056627. PMID 2152500." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.60.54.11 (talk) 13:41, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
T / M tropic - SI NSI
editthis nomenclature stems mostly from the 80ies and 90ies and is not being used at all anymore. Should it be removed, or left in there for historic reasons? It should be mentioned that it's outdated I think. I added the current terms X4 R5 next to M-tropic etc now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.60.54.11 (talk) 13:45, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
