editFounded in 2000, HKMA David Li Kwok Po College is a semi-private co-educational secondary school in Hong Kong offering classes at Junior Secondary (S.1-3), Senior Secondary (S.4-5), and Advanced Level (S.6-7). It operates under the Direct Subsidy Scheme which allows the school to charge fees whilst receiving recurrent government grants based on enrolment. The school is empowered to design its own curriculum, set its admission criteria and recruit teachers according to its own policies. The College uses English as the medium of instruction, except in Chinese Language and French Language lessons. Students are entered for two local examinations at the end of S.5 and S.7. These are the HKCE and the HKAL examinations. It is envisaged that the current curriculum structure will change as Hong Kong migrates towards a six-year secondary programme with only one exit examination. It will seek authorization to offer the IB Diploma.
The College is built with a modern infrastructure that includes a number of fully-resourced and properly staffed facilities such as science laboratories, specialist rooms, computer-resource rooms, a lecture theatre, a dance studio, a fully independent English Learning Centre, and an assembly hall. All classrooms are equipped with computer projectors and have access to a wireless network. The College expects its students to be bilingual (English and Chinese), be proud of their cultural heritage while having an international outlook, and strives to educate its students to be confident and expressive individuals who possess an awareness of global and local civic issues. With such an aim, the HKMA David Li Kwok Po College recruits quality teachers locally as well as from the international community. Students at the HKMA David Li Kwok Po College also enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities, numbering some forty choices. Some of these are not often provided in other local schools. The College believes in creating as supportive a learning environment as possible. There is a dual class teacher pastoral system, have the services of a qualified educational psychologist, have initiated a schoolwide reading programme (D.E.A.R.), a House system and an active parent association. Admission to the HKMA David Li Kwok Po College is by parent application, followed by an interview with the parents and the child, as well as written and oral tests where appropriate.[1]
