Falsen at Fladstrand
editFalsen's Fladstrand Flotilla is a page of notes attempting to find further evidence of the Grinder in Danish sources. So far Grinder aka Prise Nr 5 has not resurfaced.Viking1808 (talk) 17:12, 21 July 2011 (UTC) Viking1808 (talk) 17:55, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
from 1811 to 1832
editHi Benea - I see this Grinder (1809) has some added information under the ships list for HMS Grinder, and indeed an HMS Grinder of 41 tons is listed in London Gazette for 1832. Is there a clear line of evidence that this is the same ship? It would be very exciting to see such a connection! As you will read, the history of HMS Grinder (1809) comes to a grinding halt in the current article! Viking1808 (talk) 14:07, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- I've inserted an infobox, and taken the chance to insert the sale date; I know Benea is using Colledge, and the London Gazette reference is plain as a pikestaff. In fact, a Google Books preview gives the date of sale as 22 Aug 1832, and I've inserted that too. Shem (talk) 16:01, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- Outstanding. We've come quite a ways from the original foreign press accounts of the capture. Regards, Acad Ronin (talk) 20:25, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply, been working on something else. Yes Shem is quite right, the details are in Colledge, and can be confirmed in the contemporary newspapers as indicated. Another triumph for wikipedia and you guys! Benea (talk) 14:41, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
1810 British armament of Grinder
edit"This was the GRINDER commanded by Lieutenant Esther, armed with two 24-pounder cannon and a crew of 34" - this is a translation of part of page 260 of Wandell's Søkrigen. I tried placing it in the ship info box but failed. Also, before I tried that, there is something wrong with the format of the references in the Notes section. - I've updated the infobox; the referencing in the notes section is a Wikipedia-wide problem, nothing to do with this article. Do you know how many men the Danes manned her with?Shem (talk) 14:39, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- Phew! Thanks for that about the bug. I do not think I have any crew numbers on the Danish side - the record card at Orlogmuseet is blank on that detail - but command was given to a midshipman (as acting lieutenant) if that has any significance (Oldelan - not listed in TopsøeJensens book). I will check all my notes tomorrow. Viking1808 (talk) 16:04, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
