editMy great great grandfather is supposed to have sailed from Portsmouth to Madras in the Hindostan, under Captain Redman, in 1834 (see The Evangelical Magazine and Missionary Chronicle, Volume 12, p482. None of the ships mentioned on this page seem to have been in commission in 1834. Does this mean that there's another ship called the Hindostan? If so, does anyone know anything about it, or can any one suggest how to research this? Thanks. Rowan.bradley (talk) 18:25, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, as you can see, Hindoostan, Hindostan or Hindustan was a popular name. Do you know any more about the vessel you are interested in other than the date of the voyage? That is, do you know what shipping company she belonged to? That might help you narrow your search down a little more. Regards, Acad Ronin (talk) 18:46, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
