An HMS Peacock wrecked on the Columbia Bar
editI've just been reading British Columbia from the Earliest Times to the Present, E.O.S. Scholefield and F.W. Howay, p. 406 and in the section quoting Sir George Simpson's account of his trip to the Columbia District, he says "The Peacock Sloop of War had been totally lost on the Columbia Bar a few weeks prior to my arrival [in 1841] but the officers and crew were providentially saved". Other vessels like the HMS Porpoise, HMS Flying Fish, HMS Vincennes and HMS Wave are also mentioned; also a ship Oregon but it's unclear if it's HMS or not. Anyway the dates for the HMS Peacocks listed on this page don't seem to jibe with 1841. Anyone have any more info?Skookum1 (talk) 15:44, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
