A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on April 25, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that the first three ships attacked by German U-boat SM UB-14—the Italian cruiser Amalfi and British troopships Royal Edward (pictured) and Southland—were all among the largest ships hit by U-boats during the First World War?

edit

A couple more inline citations are needed on this article. I also think the Career section could be broken up into a pre-WWI section and a WWI section.

Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey has a commemoration for Royal Edward. http://www.cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery/cemetery/76100/HELLES%20MEMORIAL 86.24.52.90 (talk) 15:07, 12 January 2013 (UTC)JAFReply

Frontal Iceberg collision

edit

BTW, there's a mention of a frontal iceberg collision in the french wikipedia article that I don't see in this one: "Murdoch's manoeuvre has been much analysed, but was a product of his professional training. Only afterwards did the British Inquiry hear expert opinion from naval architects and others, delivered in the cold light of day, that it would have been better to ram the iceberg head on" [1] -- jlam (talk) 16:38, 23 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
