Notability

edit

This article is currently flagged with the notability tag, suggesting that this software was notable. It gained enough popularity that other software products, namely BBS software like WildCat!, started to check for the presence of uploaded files. So, this software affected the development of other software. However, some people seem intent on removing any details related to using BBSs just because there is a limited amount of information online, so certain software doesn't seem "notable" enough. Some of the most popular BBS door games have also been flagged with notability concerns. Back in the day, BBSs were popular enough that I could go to a grocery store and see a magazine which had a primary topic of BBS communications. They certainly had an impact back in the day. They just largely died off as server operators stopped paying for phone lines dedicated to running a BBS, which most did as usage of TCP/IP became more widespread. If Wikipedia is meant to be an online encyclopedia, having references to such cultural-impacting topics should not be removed just because there aren't a ton of other websites that mention specific implementations.

I can off-hand think of at least three websites that discuss this protocol (not to mention ones that simply offer a download to related software). I vote to keep. 174.21.246.238 (talk) 19:57, 4 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
