editI've re-jigged the article to trim the overlap with Joint Venture and bring the IoM service section up to date. I've fixed the dates to match those in the Infobox, though I need to check them; they don't match the dates on the Joint Venture page. Xyl 54 (talk) 05:28, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Distance Hobart to England
editOn my digital world map the shortest reasonable distance is Hobart-Somalia-Suez-Gibraltar-Portsmouth with about 20.500km. Via South Africa against the west wind and drift half around the world through the Roaring Forties is about 21.500km, via Panama Canal 22.500km. A distance of 19.100km can not be found and should be cited from a serious source. Maybe the 11.868 "miles" are nautical and not statute, then 11.868nm are 21.980km, which could fit, if a moderate loxodromic course is choosen from Hobart to South Africa. And if it is calculated with the length of the over 50 years abandoned admiralty mile it results in quite exact 22.000km. So it looks like an uncrafty backward calculation from 22.000km to seamiles. How long is the mess with the miles, pounds, gallons, degrees and tons to last?--176.0.117.55 (talk) 18:05, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
