Cuba or Chile: THG disagrees with Guardian + AA

The Guardian and AA say that Chile is a member; AA lists 9 countries excluding Cuba; THG includes Cuba and excludes Chile. All we have from THG itself is a single web page.

Ideally we need something like:

• a correction from The Guardian or from AA or from The New Arab that has Chile and not Cuba
• a statement from a Cuban government web page asserting that it is a member
• a statement from a Chilean authority denying that it's a member
• a statement from THG describing its attempts to convince The Guardian and AA to publish corrections.

I see an edit with the edit summary Replaced Chilean member to Cuban member as delegates changed last minute and some articles are misleading. @BreakingChains: you'll need to convince a WP:RS to clarify why some sources list Chile and the THG website lists Cuba. Four months later, and still no clarifications either from the official website or independent reliable sources. Wikipedia cannot say that Chile withdrew and Cuba accepted without any WP:RS. Boud (talk) 10:59, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

The confusion continues: only 8 states on 10 July?

THG really has problems convincing journalists of which particular states are members. Now we have Middle East Eye stating on 10 July 2025 that there are only eight members. I can empathise with being not quite sure how many states are full members of the UN (apparently 193 as of 11 July 2025 if we believe Wikipedia, an unreliable source) or are States parties to the Rome Statute (125 as of June 2025, if we again believe Wikipedia), but confusion between 8 and 9, and confusion about which those 8 or 9 states are suggests a bit of an organisational problem. Anyway, it's not Wikipedia's problem: we'll clarify it if and when the sources clarify it. Boud (talk) 18:53, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

Intervention

I cleaned things up a bit. First of all, we should not use an source deemed unreliable like WP:ANADOLU. Second of all, no official mention of either Chile or Belize in the Hague Group’s official website or press releases. I have removed them. Which source has attendees?

Which source has the list of ministers/ambassadors attending the inaugural meeting? Is their individual attendance really notable? The video hosted at GAFAM and pointed to by the DiEM source to find this info is generally not likely to be accepted as a reliable source. I removed the GAFAM source per WP:RSPYT. The DiEM source does have a low resolution photo, with illegible name tags. Unless there's a text source listing the attendees, it's difficult to justify the table - at least for the moment. If more countries join, then a table including joining dates, with sources, might make sense. Boud (talk) 01:33, 9 February 2025 (UTC)

Is it really all about Gaza?

The article presently focuses on Israel's wars, but the Guardian articles mention also the illegal actions against Ukraine, and even older conflicts, basically anyone condemned by the ICC but not arrested. 2003:CD:EF26:A69F:A51F:32BD:7EB3:DF44 (talk) 19:48, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

This article is not about war crimes (broad sense) themselves, it's about the coordination "Group" of several states in relation to war crimes and international law. The Guardian mentions Ukraine in the sentence "The move comes as both the ICC and ICJ face unprecedented challenges to their authority in cases relating to the wars in Gaza and Ukraine and people-smuggling in the Mediterranean", but the sentence only describes context - not what either the Group says about itself or what independent journalists or academics say about the Group. The Group's self-stated intentions don't say anything about the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine that started on 24 February 2022. Boud (talk) 10:54, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
