Literal meaning
editThe literal meaning/etymology of this toponym needs to be explained. Badagnani 20:54, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- It was the name of a village prior to the expansion of Beijing. Lao She mentions it in Camel Xiangzi and it's shown on this German map from 1875. Sorry that's not much, but I hope it helps. Matt 04:25, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

- No joy finding a proper etymology, although this Beijing Review article emphasizes a historic connection with water, so I suspect the name means what it says (roughly, watery marsh). I did add a history section though :-) Matt's talk 14:46, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
