Pashtun or Punjabi?

edit

Apparently there is a dispute both here and on the rest of the Internet whether Hamid is Pashtun, Punjabi, or both. Since this is a WP:BLP we need a reliable source for any controversial claim or it must be removed (as I have done for now). Thundermaker (talk) 20:03, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hamid Gul early life misleading and unsourced

edit

I cited the existing source of the article that said it was his FATHER (https://www.news18.com/blogs/world/anchal-vohra/when-i-met-hamid-gul-14333-1046421.html). He is also clearly of the Punjabi-Pathan category, undisputed by anyone on this site. I've also personally met with the son of Hamid Gul a while ago.
The "Yusufzai" edit is what is actually unsourced anywhere, only added because hes from Swat, which is far from, an ethnically/tribally homogenus place.. The Available and existing source tells us his background of father being Pashtun from Swat, he himself and his descendants being life long settled in Punjab 49.185.97.46 (talk) 03:14, 28 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Use of 'freedom fighters' on Wikipeda

edit

To the relentless anonymous Pakistan-based IP reverter, a reminder that the combatants dispatched to fight in the Kashmir conflict may not be listed as 'freedom fighters'. The term is certainly popular from the Pakistani government perspective and among those who support efforts by Hamid Gul and other Pakistani officials who view the aims of these groups to be the freedom of occupied Kashmiri territory. Those in opposition, including those supporting Indian policy in Kashmir and many Western governments often refer to these fighters and their organizations (e.g. LeT) as terrorists, arguing their methods are designed to inflict terror on civilians. Both of these value-laden terms, 'freedom fighters' and 'terrorists' are both proscribed by Wikipedia's WP:FREEDOMFIGHTER and WP:TERRORIST policies, respectively. Instead, 'militants' serves as a generous substitute as these fighters, whether for aims of freedom or terror.

Further discussions may be had on this talk page, however no further reverts should follow until a consensus has been reached in accordance with WP:MOS. RightQuark (talk) 20:16, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
