On 4 August 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved from North Carolina Highway 417 to Hampstead Bypass. The result of the discussion was Moved to Hampstead Bypass (North Carolina). |
Junction list
editFor those wondering, I split the junction list because while the Hampstead Bypass' exits are known, it's not yet under construction, so I thought it would be confusing to have one contiguous exit list. It would have been merged once construction actually started on the bypass, since MOS:RJL indicates that exits proposed but not under construction shouldn't be included on the primary junction list. The result of the move request was: Moved to Hampstead Bypass (North Carolina) – robertsky (talk) 13:30, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
– Looking on the official NCDOT page for the project, it does not mention NC 417 at all. It looks like it will be a bypass for US 17, not a new state route. The title "Hampstead Bypass" is used a lot more than US 17 Bypass for the project, which is why I propose that to be the new name for the page. What is the opinion on this? Thanks! - Move NC 417 to Hampstead Bypass (North Carolina) in order to avoid confusion with Hampstead Bypass (Maryland) along MD 30. Dough4872 14:14, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Support The question I would like to ask is why was the article named North Carolina Highway 417 in the first place if no sources call it such nor any information existed to hint that was going to have a highway number? Also, I have no issues with it moving to Hampstead Bypass (North Carolina); but the article will also need a major overhaul to remove all NC 417 from it. --WashuOtaku (talk) 14:31, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Washuotaku The whole naming situation seems to be a mess. A source from Star news in 2018 claims that the NCDOT does want NC 417 to be the route number yet there is no mention of it on their official site and it in fact mentions the route number the local officials wanted, US 17 Bypass. Maybe it could be something with the old designation of US 17 on NC 140 but I think "Hampstead Bypass" is a better name for the article like the Shelby Bypass and the Monroe Expressway. DiscoA340 (talk) 18:39, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- For now that is probably the better name for the article; if NCDOT decides it to be NC 417 or something else, it would be an easy switch. --WashuOtaku (talk) 21:01, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- If there are no objections, I can put a technical request for moving tomorrow as Hampstead Bypass (North Carolina) is a redirect to this article. DiscoA340 (talk) 23:05, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Superstreet intersections
editI mention this in a recent edit, but I do see the need to include the Superstreet intersections in the junction list, which is usually reserved for highways and major roads. These roads do not appear to be significant and appear to be more of filler for an otherwise short road/highway. My recommendation is to remove them and drop the "Begin Freeway" line (also just filler, that should be noted in the route description). --WashuOtaku (talk) 22:38, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
Possible Extension Of I-20/I-140/I-174
editI know neither of these three routes are in North Carolina future maps and wasn’t approved by ASHTO, but NCDOT it is turning US 74/US 76 into a freeway from the future end of I-74 overlap to Leland near Wilmington (east of it is already a freeway with little improvements) and soon freeway project will happen to the Hempstead Bypass and the county east of Wilmington and the bypass to upgrade US 17 into a freeway. It can be possible it can be one of those three routes can be designed once all these projects are completed meaning it can possible it can get extended once it’s completed. This is just a thought since based on what I think when NCDOT is upgrading routes to freeways maybe future interstates and speculation. Maybe it can be added to notes in history. Not ready for the future section yet. 2600:1005:B0C1:530B:2977:3602:4E54:394F (talk) 17:31, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- It could be a possibility that NCDOT secretly planning in preparation to extend a future interstate without SCDOT, ASHTO, highway administrations, etc. knowing. Again, this is my thoughts and speculation. 2600:1005:B0C1:530B:2977:3602:4E54:394F (talk) 17:37, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
