Plot summary edit

Hi! I made a story so we can added that the movie is completed! Yes!

Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) is late for a blowout concert as her popularity succession Hannah Montana. She couldn’t get in, until, she and Lilly (Emily Osment) sneaks it. Hi! Um, I made a newer plot about the movie, and I was wondering can one of you copyright this article to the Plot Summary? 71.72.230.95 (talk) 23:36, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I would like to request this section of the article undergo a serious grammar check. It's more Engrish (broken English) than English and can be very irritating and hard to read. I believe someone should re-write it so it makes better sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rholz3 (talkcontribs) 08:43, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Other Cast

I read on Yahoo! OMG that Melora Hardin is playing Robby Ray's love interest. It did not state her character's name, but I think that the article on here should include her since that will probably be a large role. -I don't have an account on here, so I will not list a name.

Same person as above - I just read on omg.yahoo.com that rascal flatts is in the movie, too! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.235.157.237 (talk) 18:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

also other people also call it that and how come moises, emily and mitchell is in the movie since miley, jackson and robby r going 2 tennessee??should i also add the ferris wheel accident on the article??—Preceding unsigned comment added by DCFan101 (talkcontribs) 07:31, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Plot error

It says in the plot that Miley's dad urges her to return to Cowley Corners in Texas, when it should be Cowley Corners in Tenessee--Tiah12345 (talk) 06:07, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

It's Crowley, and he tricks Miley into thinking that she's going to NYC, but takes her to Crowley Corners instead, where she meets Trey (or was it Trevor...) by fate. I know this for a fact because I went to a research place and they gave us plotlines for scenes. Peter Gunn

I can't find anything on Peter Gunn or his character in the movie. Are there any articles explaining more about his role other than he tries to expose Miley's secret? Is he an adult or a kid...or a teenager? I just feel like things aren't being expanded enough on his part. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.217.25.15 (talk) 17:59, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

This phrase:

A few musical numbers will be shown in a carnival in Smiley Hollow (a special events facility in Ridgetop, TN, Just outside Greenbrier, TN and just north of Nashville) where there were about 1500 volunteer extras and 500 paid extras on hand.[11]

Warning of Inappropriate Content for Younger Viewers?

I just saw the movie last night at an advanced preview and there are two things that may be considered inappropriate for some younger viewers: (a) the reporter refers to his boss as a "succubus," which I would assumed the Disney censor/reviewer did not know this is a demon who rapes people while in pleasing form; and (b) there is a scene where Jackson is attacked by an alligator for humour, where he is unrealistically unscathed.

(I felt really bad for the parents in the movie who had to answer their children's questions "Mom, what is a succubus?" especially when there is a whole host of other possible word choices. The second one is more a matter of opinion: some people have no problem with unrealistic violence for humour, some believe it should be realistic or not used for humour)

Is this appropriate content for a movie page? I know some parents would want to know ahead of time, if only so they don't say "I don't know what a succubus is, so why don't you Google it at home" to find inappropriate pictures and descriptions... No, seriously, forewarning just makes it easier to answer your kids' questions.--Blondtraillite (talk) 14:57, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Also, just thought I'd point out that there are ways to write such an "opinion" as neutral. So the neutrality of including it should probably be saved until the text is written. --Blondtraillite (talk) 15:00, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
The only way to include this in the article is if some reliable source news or reviewer comments on it. Our evaluations of whether or not this is important don't really matter when adding to the article. It could be classed as a controversy if some number of sources make an issue about it. --NrDg 16:11, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay, although I understand and agree with the "reliable source" policy, it is an ideal. We want to avoid original research and biased opinion. Yes, I agree. However, I do not think this is the argument to use, but more style (and I obviously had my hesitations, otherwise I would have edited the article directly instead of beginning a discussion). If you really want to try to use this argument with me, you'd have to trash the entire article: the majority of the information contained DOES NOT have a reliable source. The only difference is that no one is contesting the plot or the characters as these are correct and we know so from seeing the original source. The reality of Wikipedia is, especially in fiction and descriptions of fiction, is people put up any information and only consider sources when someone contests the information (and even then, only if they go through the official channels/procedure). It's a lovely ideal, but not what is really done throughout articles on fiction in Wikipedia.--Blondtraillite (talk) 22:27, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
The majority of information in the article DOES have reliable sourced references and we've worked hard to get it that way. Now that the movie is out anything in the movie itself including plot details and credits can use the movie as a primary source of information as well. Reviews will be backed up with references. The ideal is what we strive for. There are no official channels, editors work together to improve the articles and removal of article content that can't be verified and or consists of personal opinions will get removed as part of the improvement process. --NrDg 22:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
I checked the following site's reviews for the movie (I figured as these were Christian-run sites, there would have been some mention of the "succubus" allegation), and after looking at the Movieguide, Plugged In, Christianity Today, and Christian Answers, I have yet to find anything about any such incident taking place. Unless the original poster had some source (preferably with ability to see the script attached), I'd agree with everyone else in ignoring it. WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 14:50, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

The Plot sounds like it has been written by a rambling tween. Someone needs to throw it out and redo the ENTIRE thing. Grammar and good writing ethics should be applied. Image preference

Which image is better for the article: File:Hannah-montana-movie-poster.jpg or File:Hannah Montana The Movie poster.png. It's a matter of preference since none of them are in violation of any sort of guideline that I know of. Please voice your own opinion. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 23:00, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

The jpg version is a faithful reproduction of the source image so that's what we should be using, not a manipulated version, no matter how much prettier we think it is. The png has been colour manipulated and the text is out of focus. --AussieLegend (talk) 23:21, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Now that I think about it, that makes more sense. Candyo32 00:11, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

There's no doubt that the colour in the png version is different from the original image. I converted the source image[1] to a smaller png version and the colour remained the same, as one would expect, so clearly the colour was manipulated before upload. I asked about this at Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests,[2] and the response (from an administrator)[3] was, "manipulation creates a derivative work, which is not permitted under doctrines of fair use." Since File:Hannah Montana The Movie poster.png breaches the fair-use policy we can't use it and it should be deleted. --23:40, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Problems with article

There are a few problems with the article. I'd fix them myself but an edit summary is not enough space to explain the problems and another editor would probably misunderstand and revert the changes, or better yet, someone might be able to fix the problems and avoid deleting the material.

The release section mentions the film received a MPAA G rating. Most film articles do not mention the rating, and MPAA ratings are specific to the United States, Wikipedia is not just the US. More importantly WP:MOSFILM discourages editors from including this information because in most cases it is not notable. Sure there are plenty of sources that allow you to verify the information but in most cases it is not notable. There are cases where the rating is disputed, and cuts or changes are made to get a lower rating and articles discussing this would make the information notable. Also (see succubus comments on talk page) if there was a good source such as a known critic/reviewer that though the rating was lower than it should be that might be just barely enough to make it worth mentioning the rating. If an editor cannot improve the text the MPAA rating should be removed.

The other issue is the slightly odd choice of critics in the Reception section. Tallwriter at Blogcritics seems like an odd choice. The article doesn't even add anything new interesting, the other reviews already cover the fact that adults are unlikely to enjoy the film but that it is well suited to the target audience. Southernfury at Atomic Popcorn is another odd choice. It would be better to have reviewers who are well known and who use their real names. There is no reason to exclude them just because they are unknown if they make a particularly intersting point but it would be far better to replace these reviews with better ones and use any of the critics listed at Metacritic or any of the Top Critics listed at Rotten Tomatoes. This information should only be deleted when there are better reviews to replace the information.

On another minor note, it would be better if the Soundtrack section was formatted using Template:Tracklist the same as other film articles. The article Hannah_Montana:_The_Movie_(soundtrack) already does this, that formatting could be copied back to this article or the section is this article reduced and more information pushed to the soundtrack article instead of being repeated here.

These and a few other changes could help bring the article up to B Class. -- 109.77.97.141 (talk) 15:48, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Numbers.

The figures in the article are not very reliable and have various problems. Sources so far include IMDB, Box Office Mojo (which is published by IMDB/Amazon) and TheNumbers. Only IMDB list the $30 million production budget (even though IMDB also publishes Box office mojo). (My search for the production budget didn't turn up any results at The LA Times or Variety which are normally fairly reliable for budget figures. Variety only mentioned that the film was considered low budget.)

TheNumbers.com list the box office Gross as $150 million, whereas Box Office Mojo gives $155 million, the latter figures look more precise. TheNumbers.com also lists another $60 million in DVD sales, normally that would be factored into the overall gross bringing it to approximately $210 million overall (the layout on theNumbers.com made it seem at least to me that the $60 million DVD sales was not already included in the total of $150 million but perhaps I'm mistaken). Treat the figures with caution! Not sure how best to fix this, perhaps the Box office or Home media section of the article could clarify this better. -- 109.77.97.141 (talk) 19:54, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Citations

As I indicated on your talk page, WP:NOTABLE applies to the creation of articles, not to the addition of content. This is specifically addressed by WP:NNC, which says "The criteria applied to article content are not the same as those applied to article creation. The notability guidelines do not apply to article or list content (with the exception that some lists restrict inclusion to notable items or people). Content coverage within a given article or list is governed by the principle of due weight and other content policies. For additional information about list articles, see Notability and lists and Lead and selection criteria." It's very rarely constructive to replace a valid citation with {{citation needed}} as you did here. --AussieLegend () 06:35, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
