Rescue of Allied airmen
I have attributed the story of Trautloft rescuing of the Allied airmen to their respective sources. The work by Adam Makos, A Higher Call, that has previously been used as a source, reads like a work of sentimentalist fiction rather than sound historiography, so I have removed that as an unreliable source. I am also aware that author Colin Heaton added further anecdotal details to the story allegedly based upon interviews with German veterans. Other sources mention a visit by Luftwaffe officers, but do not name anyone. It seems, e.g., that Mitchell G. Bard: Forgotten Victims: The Abandonment of Americans in Hitler's Camps (1994) does not mention Trautloft or anybody else. But as the research of a German journalist has shown, there are no archival records to verify the story. It seems it has never been told by Trautloft himself.--Assayer (talk) 19:00, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
