UK
editRegardless of where & how K split from, its still under UK, mixing the names only adds confusion.Cadenas2008 (talk) 15:07, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editI propose merging article Haplogroup UK to Haplogroup K.
- The phylogenetic tree in the Wikipedia main article Human_mitochondrial_DNA_haplogroup#Phylogeny has a note stating that the name UK is an older term and the former Name for Haplogroup U, which contains a subclade Haplogroup K.
- The Wikipedia template mtDNA, titled "Phylogenetic tree of human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups", also shows a subclade branching of U | K.
- Article Haplogroup UK is Stub grade and vastly inferior to article Haplogroup K.
As the previous talk section states, there is naming confusion regarding UK. After I used Google to survey dozens of scholarly articles containing the phrase "Haplogroup UK", the term UK seems to be an informal reference to branch K of branch U or a specific mutation found in subclade U. There seems to be no single or common authority yet on haplogroup nomenclature or phylogeny, but the Phylogenic tree in the main article Human_mitochondrial_DNA_haplogroup seems to be the most detailed and contains the best references. The Wikipedia articles for Haplogroup U#Haplogroup U8, Haplogroup K, Haplogroup UK could all use improvement in identification and references regarding phylogeny. At least this proposal is a start. - Wouldn't it make more sense to merge it into Haplogroup K (mtDNA)? --R'n'B (call me Russ) 18:53, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- Merge to which article? Haplogroup K is a DAB page, and per WP:DABREF cannot contain citations or external links. Narky Blert (talk) 11:27, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Support merge of Haplogroup UK to Haplogroup K (mtDNA); synonyms, and any historic differences can be discussed on the merged page. Klbrain (talk) 11:06, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
