Talk:Harassment in the United Kingdom

Added brief amendments to include the impact of the decision in Majrowski v St Thomas's in the House of Lords. As an English lawyer I can only say that this is potentially significant. Only time will tell if it makes a real difference. GBH 13:31, 23 August 2006 (UTC)GBHReply

I've added this page in response to a request on the discussion page on harassment. jennyemily

Hi. I cited this page in an article about workplace bullying, and wonder if anyone would mind if I were to cast my editing eye over this one. There's lots of good information here but some of it isn't quite technically correct - eg its the Protection FROM Harassment Act, not "Protection AGAINST". I know, a bit pedantic, but this is an encyclopedia! My working knowledge is in employment matters, but I'm aware that one body of opinion says the PFHA was introduced as an anti stalking law - for use outside work. I therefore propose to clarify this at the opening paragraphs, and then put employment related applications under an "employment" heading. I have not sussed out the optimum approach yet, but would welcome opinions of anyone watching the article. Justdignity 16:59, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Section 1 of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 does not contain a definition of the expression "harassment". It defines an offence that involves "harassment" (i.e. whatever that means). James500 (talk) 17:49, 23 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

How to content

edit

The more I look at the sections headed "preventing harassment" and "dealing with harassment", the more I become convinced that they cannot be rewritten in a way that complies with NOTHOWTO. There is no assertion that the particular procedure described is a legal obligation or that it is what employers normally do. It is not explained why it is specific to the United Kingdom and does not apply to other countries. The two sections are also unreferenced and may be original research. This stuff was added in 2006. I don't think it would be tolerated if added today. I think the best approach would be to blow them up and start again. James500 (talk) 05:27, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Done with this edit. If anyone wants to re-post this material on Wikiversity they are free to do so. I haven't because its sources are not identified and I am not prepared to vouch for its quality. James500 (talk) 05:45, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
