Article justification
editDoes this article even need to exist? Maybe put it up for deletion. --KneeLess 06:35, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Sure it does. Hardened Gentoo is a fairly major subproject of Gentoo, an important distro. If it bugs you, put a stub up. -- Maru Dubshinki
- This article also catalogs the various technologies used by Hardened Gentoo. Midnightcomm
- Defently not. It would clutter the main Gentoo article. It dose not need to be there. And the Hardened Gentoo Project is fairly major, and this article should be expanded. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.7.157.169 (talk) 09:51, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

- @Mean as custard: Hardened Gentoo isn't the same thing as Gentoo Linux and the redirect target Gentoo Linux doesn't even mention Hardened Genotoo. I think it's not an appropriate redirect target. Perhaps deletion or merging is more appropriate. -- intgr [talk] 01:00, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

- Recent Headline: Linux distro hacked on GitHub, “all code considered compromised” 29 JUN 2018 by Paul Ducklin
"Data breaches are always bad news, and this one is peculiarly bad. Gentoo, a popular distribution of Linux, has had its GitHub repository hacked." https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2018/06/29/linux-distro-hacked-on-github-all-code-considered-compromised Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we're going to see some new articles about Hardened Gentoo vs Gentoo after this security breach. After all, it has serious implications for all Linux distribution s and their security, which had been fairly lax considering the potential spread of damage. Also, the original nomination for deletion is problematic, because it introduces a possibility for "political" favoritism for certain linux distributions (or subsets of distros. Or, taking the terminology of the founder of the Free Software Movement, Richard Stallman, combinations of the GNU/Linux kernel GNU/Linux naming controversy) and GNU software and or "Open Source" software. I'm making a not so subtle point here. I'm not accusing the Kneeless or anyone else here of ulterior motives. But this is a sticky subject, and as time goes by, there are, to an increasing degree, secondary financial incentives for promoting certain distros over others, or as in this case, demoting the importance of one. If we're going to do this, a thorough survey of the notability of comparable linux distros is going to have to be explicitly made. Have "hardened" kernel versions of other distros be deleted, or kept, on similar grounds? Articles of variant kernels merged with their respective distros? On the basis of number of downloads, media/publication mentions or references, influence on code such as SELinux? I'm not basing these questions on Wikipedia notability guidelines, just common sense fairness and prevention of future abuse.Cuvtixo (talk) 04:23, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Disputed Accuracy
editNot sure if this is accurate in July 2018 as Gentoo seem to have backed out of a hardened Kernel ... which may not be the same thing as this article. My favouriate distro lookup site does not seem to mention this as a distro. It is it time to get this cleaned up of get the thing deleted or to a redirect to a one liner on the Gentoo article.Djm-leighpark (talk) 18:21, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
