Controversy section

edit

I'm concerned about wp:blp and legal issues in the new "Controversy" section and also whether it is undue weight - lots of text on one topic unbalancing the article. I've toned it down a little but am still worried, and I have reported it here (update: and now added the BLP template here) in the hope of getting advice from those more experienced in the field. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 08:24, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

On undue weight, surely (looking at it again) this is too much? It's about something in a teacher's personal life, not really about the school though if the allegations are true then perhaps there a "reflects on school/integrity" issue. Should it not be cut down to one referenced sentence perhaps? DBaK (talk) 08:33, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well I've been wp:bold and cut it down a bit. Other views would still be welcome. Thanks DBaK (talk) 08:40, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've cut it down more. Martinlc (talk) 15:35, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

What does this mean?

edit

"In May 2005, the school featured in the 30 minute long BBC documentary called Head on the Block, made by the headteacher's sister, Debbie Shuter. It was not shown on the BBC[4] mainly because it was made by the headteacher's sister.[5]" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.78.169.194 (talk) 09:24, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Possible conflict of interest apparently only noticed by the Beeb at the last minute. I've tried to clarify this using the sources cited. I've also somehow screwed up the refs at the moment, sorry, but it still works better. (Fixed.) DBaK (talk) 10:53, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Categories for discussion: nomination of various 'Former pupils' categories

edit

The 'former pupils' category associated with this school has been nominated for renaming, along with all similar categories. Comments are invited at the categories' entry on the Categories for discussion page. Thank you. Occuli (talk) 15:22, 17 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Moved

edit

Someone very sensibly redid the web links following the name change. In the same spirit, I have moved the article. I hope this was not too WP:BOLD but I couldn't really see why not to since it is now, like it or not, called that. Please now form an orderly queue to beat me up ... :) best wishes DBaK (talk) 15:53, 17 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Shuter's CBE

edit

Shuter's CBE is now in twice. Which is the best place for it and the best ref? thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 11:12, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Whoops, hadn't noticed, Thanks. The Admissions section did not seem the right place, so I've boldly used the better cite in the Headteachers section. Change it if you like, I don't have a strong opinion on where it should be. NB the Admissions sections needs more changes I think! Rwendland (talk) 11:34, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I think that's an excellent solution and I'm not planning on fiddling with it further. Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 12:02, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Song "Baggy Trousers" by "Madness" inspired by the Quintin Kynaston

edit

Suggs has acknowledged in his autobiography Suggs: That Close (autobiography) that the song Baggy Trousers"Baggy Trousers" was inspired by his time at the Quintin Kynaston School. References need to be chased for this but there is an extract of the book on the net which says this, as well as an article in the Hampstead & Highgate express series of newspapers in 2013 in support of a lecture tour by Suggs (but seemingly not on their website)

People - Michael Ivens

edit

@Epeefleche: About Michael Ivens - regarding this edit - there is this Guardian and this Telegraph obit. Possibly N? But if so maybe N not just for the poems ... But no rush anyway. DBaK (talk) 09:41, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes -- if those are added, I think they reflect N. Best. --Epeefleche (talk) 17:50, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Done, thanks. DBaK (talk) 22:21, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

People - Mohamed Emwazi

edit

I posted an edit concerning Emwazi into the main body of the text because it is a relevant comment on the mores of the school at the time. I understand he was not alone, that two other pupils also became Islamic fundamentalist fighters, one in Somalia and another in Iraq, and that makes a comment not only on the people but ALSO on the school, which must be reflected to respect an NPOV: the removal is therefore a hagiographic bowdlerisation, the school must take the rough with the smooth and they must take responsibility for what they produced. For my credentials, I am an academic historian with the Warburg Institute, London University's advanced studies school, and was previously a senior staffer with the European equivalent of the State Department, so I have an excellent grasp on ideation in the fundamentalist world. I do not intend entering an edit war, but the decision to revert my posting is biased, in my opinion: it could have been edited, but to remove it completely for an administrative reason which does not address the point of the posting, that the school had additional problems arising from the blinkered ideology it followed at the time, does not reflect the truth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.193.92.21 (talk) 09:26, 2 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Comment Thank you for coming to Talk to discuss it. You have changed IP address since whenever this was - your current address has only two edits, both to this Talk page, so if you want to discuss your intended edit it would be helpful if we knew what it was. Getting an account helps with stuff like this but failing that it is possible through various techniques to indicate what the desired entry was. You might also want to ease up on language like "hagiographic bowdlerisation" which in my opinion is prejudicial to civilized discussion and risks sounding perhaps other than you meant it. Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 10:48, 2 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well it looks like 90.193.92.21 isn't in a hurry to play. I have added a paragraph to the lead mentioning the jihadist. I agree that it needs mentioned - just not in an OTT way. DBaK (talk) 10:00, 7 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Transitioning to new title

edit

I have done an excessive number of edits so the page reflects the school today. The previous work in effect becomes a history section. I am looking a all the Harris Federation Schools and will be pulling stuff from the Curriculum Intent section of the website, and the 2019 Ofsted Report. Please help find secondary references, check my deteriorating prose and fill out the sections using WP:SCH/AG for inspiration.--ClemRutter (talk) 18:20, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
