WW2 Service?

Germany Surrendered in May 1945. Japan surrendered in Sept 1945. Harry Andrews was in school from October 1939 to October 1945, How then, did he manage to serve in the Royal Artillery when a) he was in school and b) WW2 was over before he left school?

answer - He was born in 1911...he was serving with the army during WW2.

He was a brilliant actor and I always looked forward to his appearances.
