interview quote?
editIs my quote from the Michael Rowland interview too extensive for fair use? -- Geo Swan 20:52, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Change of Command
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Aloha. Admiral Harry B. Harris Jr. was promoted to admiral today (October 16, 2013), and assumed command of United States Pacific Fleet shortly thereafter. (Audrey McAvoy (2013-10-16). "New commander to take over U.S. Pacific Fleet". Honolulu Star Advertiser. Retrieved 2013-10-16.), (Audrey McAvoy (2013-10-16). "New commander takes over at U.S. Pacific Fleet". Seattle Post Intelligencer. Retrieved 2013-10-16.) Also, please note that the biographical information in the box on the right side of the article will need updating to reflect his new job title (under the photograph), which should now be "Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet"; rank, "admiral" with four stars instead of three; and commands held: add "U.S. Pacific Fleet". The portrait photo at the top of the page shows him as a vice admiral. We have a temporary photo at http://www.cpf.navy.mil/leaders/harry-harris/photo.jpg and will be taking a new one soon. We'll provide it to Wikipedia once it's ready. You might also want to edit the caption of the second photo to say, "Then-Vice Admiral Harris fires the noon cannon..."
Could somebody make the appropriate changes for us, please? Mark M. at U.S. Pacific Fleet (talk) 00:55, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
Done, except for the first photo. GroveGuy (talk) 05:17, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
Not a pilot
editIs it correct to say "He flew the P-3C Orion,..." given that he was an NFO and thus not a pilot? Perhaps it should say he was assigned to that plane? --S Philbrick(Talk) 15:49, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
"Flew" is accurate (NFOs have many of the duties of co-pilots on commercial aircraft); "piloted" would not be. In the interest of correcting any potential ambiguity there, we could consider alternatives such as "crewed" or "operated." "Flew" is in line with the service records of other NFOs, however, and is consistent with the language of the Naval Flight Officer Wiki page itself. HowlingMadHess (talk) 02:21, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
Sub-Section about Criticism over the role of United States Envoy
editDear Wikipedians, I updated articles below about the sub-section above. I am planning to add more references. Please improve this section if possible, and notify me if it is necessary to update this section with major changes. Goodtiming8871 (talk) 01:09, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
U.S. Ambassador Harris was criticized by his behavior of intervening in internal affairs or sovereign decisions of S.Korea several times.
By doing these actions, it was understood that he degenerated the bilateral relationship and own interests of U.S. by dissociating most of South Koreans.
One example was, Amb Harris criticized S. Korea's top leader in front of foreign journalists in Seoul, and warned indirectly S.Korea 's President with entailing a disciplinary reaction from the U.S. [1] [2] [3]
Harris has faced criticism by South Koreans over his attitude like a governor-general in S. Korea, [4] and his mustache, which, to some, was reminiscent of Japanese-appointed Governors-General (Itō Hirobumi) during Japanese rule over Korea. Harris suggested the criticism stemmed from his racial heritage.[5][6] He was criticized for his unprofessional role in the GSOMIA (General Security of Military Information Agreement of Japan–South Korea) with Japan, and 500 percent rise in South Korea ’s contribution, to $ 5 billion of USFK negotiations. [7] [8]
Respecting the criticism of the public in South Korea and S.Korean Government, he declared that his mustache will be removed if it had a preconceived notion that it would interfere with his public service. [9]
