Genres?

edit

I don't know if it's just my impression of the series, but after reading the eight novels so far published in English, I have a different opinion regarding the genres Haruhi Suzumiya covers. While there are obvious elements that could bill the series a science fantasy story, I think the story is presented in order to give focus to discussions and dialogues regarding the supernatural figures as well as Kyon's position in the middle of the mess, not bringing the "science fiction" element as it should in other science fantasy novels (for instance, I believe A Certain Magical Index is an actual science fantasy story). In my view, Haruhi Suzumiya would be a fantasy novel, as well as a work of philosophical fiction, more specifically a novel of ideas. Does any of you guys think similarly? 177.9.64.205 (talk) 00:05, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, what we, as editors, think is the correct genre is irrelevant. Genres are specified either by the authors themselves, their publishers or notable reviewers from trusted sources. There should be a reference/citation for each genre listed. Any others we may like to add would be original research, and therefore not permitted in this article. End of light novels?

edit

I haven't seen a 12th novel announced anywhere in the Interwebs. Avengingbandit 21:55, 16 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rather than continuing to "bump", which we don't do at Wikipedia, you might try to rephrase your question, since it's unclear to me, a passing editor, what you are asking or what answer you hope to receive. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:41, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
The "light novel" portion of the infobox (Original run: June 6, 2003 – ongoing) implies that the writing/publishing of novels are still ongoing and active, when it's pretty obvious the series is over. I made this section over a year ago to see if it was okay among other editors to change that. Avengingbandit 04:42, 9 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

What's the problem ? From what I heard on Haruhi's wikia ( [1] [2] [3] ), there will be a sequel (it is said that it is stated in The Observation of Haruhi Suzumiya ( [4] ). Since I do not really read it, it would be hard for me to say that it is not possible that there will not be any sequel... What do you think of that ? By the way, I added this: [5] (and, after, also this : [6] ) to enlight the fact that we do not really know if there will be a sequel or not. It is still possible to hope and/or to dream... -- Evachan39 (talk) 14:38, 22 October 2017 (UTC) Ok, I think I'm going to talk to the one who did this : [7] -- Evachan39 (talk) 10:31, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

(also curious) so bump. 71.3.195.32 (talk) 07:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
There seems to be at least some validity to Tanigawa wanting to continue the series back in 2011, but the only thing new that has come since then was a short story published last year. So until an official announcement of another volume, if it ever happens at all, the infobox should just stay as-is with the last published volume date in May 2011.-- 08:56, 4 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
A new light novel has come out, and the infobox has been changed to say "June 6, 2003 – present".--Martin IIIa (talk) 03:43, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Name of the series

edit

So is it just "Haruhi Suzumiya", not "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya"? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:59, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Melancholy" is the name of the first novel and of the anime series. MonX94 (talk) 01:15, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
