Split?
editIn the lead, this article appears to focus on a convention for Indic languages, but it covers a similarly named one for Russian. The two systems have commonalities, like both making use of letter case to indicate differences in sound, but they don't seem to be the same. The Russian section also currently lacks sources, but the title of a dead external link suggests that it's a real thing. small jars tc

Comparison of ⟨Ъ⟩ and ⟨ ् ⟩
editThe Russian section states that ⟨Ъ⟩ is the equivalent of Sanskrit ⟨ ् ⟩. I do not believe that is correct, but I am not certain enough to correct it as far as Sanskrit is concerned.
⟨Ъ⟩ blocks the palatalisation of a consonant by certain vowels following it, whereas I understand ⟨ ् ⟩ makes a standalone consonant sound out of a symbol that is pronounced with an inherent vowel sound by default. AengusB (talk) 13:13, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
