Hasmah Name Change

edit

Perusal of government record as far as 1975 shows 'Dr. (Puan) Siti Hasmah binti Haji Mohd Ali'. [1]

Notwithstanding, the BLP's name change has yet to gain currency in the reliable sources. The old name should be preserved in the meantime.

Good find, but I doubt the accuracy of the names displayed in the records as in the reference URL. I don't think those names are based on legal names (or to be exact, identity card names?).
For example, Muhyiddin Yassin's identity card name is in fact“Mahiaddin bin Md. Yasin”. In the above URL, there are no such records of “Mahiaddin”, but there are a bunch of records of “Muhyiddin”. Win98sefq99 (talk) 12:49, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not disagreeing with you. For Muhyiddin, their official record shows Mahiaddin, but commonly referred to as Muhyiddin. Their BLP' title is Muhyiddin Yassin, despite what the government record shows otherwise.
For Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, their official name and commonly referred name is Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali. The announcement for Hasmah Mohamad Ali is very recent. A search shows that the LP's former name has been used to name after many things. The commonly referred name should be used for the BLP. KingParijata (talk) 03:09, 30 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hasmah Mohamad AliSiti Hasmah Mohamad Ali – The article in question was originally titled 'Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali'. An editor renamed the title to 'Hasmah Mohamad Ali' without any previous discussion. The BLP's name change has yet to gain currency in the reliable mainstream sources. The old name/title should be maintaind in the meantime.
Perusal of government record as far as 1975 also shows 'Dr. (Puan) Siti Hasmah binti Haji Mohd Ali'. [1]

Editors, a quick check indicates that the name 'Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali' has been in use for a very long time and the former is commonly used to refer to the LP. A quick search also shows that many things have been named after the LP's old name. The announcement of name change is very recent and has not been in use for a long time. The new name should gain some currency before changing the name to Hasmah Mohamad Ali, in line with Wikipedia's name change policies.

gives no rationale, in fact the edit summary seems blatantly misleading, as do the claims that all or nearly all of this user's edits are minor edits, such as this one. Andrewa (talk) 08:33, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Support move back to Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali. In the absence of support for the undiscussed bold move, it should be reversed. Nom also makes a good argument that the current name of Hasmah Mohamad Ali does not have sufficient attestation, not yet at least. So we have two independent reasons supporting this requested move, either of them sufficient. Andrewa (talk) 09:28, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
