Negativity
editHastings rocks, why does the article have to be so negative against Hastings? --Citikiwi 19:49, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- I've looked through the article and it doesn't look particularly negative to me. Sure, it mentions the 1931 earthquake and the 1918 flu epidemic, but they are part of the history. There's a mention at the end that historic buildings are being replaced by multi-story buildings, and land prices skyrocketing, but while some think this is negative, others might think it good news.
- In contrast, there's the sentence just before the table of contents "Hastings is a city with huge potential and a prosperous future." which sounds like it was lifted directly from some promotional brochure and should probably be excised from Wikipedia. There are a number of other positve statments, such as the one including "Hastings is growing rapidly with the help of the smart and tidy gridiron city planning system...". Another positive statement: "Many industries like Watties and Oak's are located in Hastings as it is abundant in produce, meat and other agricultural and horticultural products."
- I do think the article could be reorganised somewhat, as the geography section covers a lot more than its title would suggest.-gadfium 00:33, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Hastings is a city with all that good stuff that you guys think came from a brochure, we should add heaps more to it as well, that article makes Hastings look small, if anything Hastings is larger than it should be because it serves as an industrial and commercial center for Havelock and Flaxmere who have no such facilities. --Citikiwi 10:08, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
On a completely unrelated note...

External link
editDear Group,
I added the link www.hawkesbay.co.nz to both Hastings and Napier. Someone saw fit to remove it. Although I am a Director of the website I feel it is a very useful site for both tourist information and regional news. All About Hawke's Bay (the site name) has had 50,000+ visitors per month recently, mainly from overseas. Site stats are here: http://www.hawkesbay.co.nz/administrator/index2.php?option=com_astatspro&task=stats&hidemainmenu=1
Please have another look at the site and evaluate it as a possible Regional Website of importance. Many thanks for your time

- Your website appears to be a collection of news stories created by other people. Why not link to the local newspaper instead? They write stories of local interest. Adding links to your own website is a conflict of interest. This is not appropriate behaviour.--118.93.25.64 (talk) 05:45, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Split Hastings District off
editHastings District should be split off from this article one day, with this becoming about only the Hastings Urban Zone part of the District. There are plenty of precedents - Whangarei District/Whangarei, Auckland Region/Auckland, Taupo District/Taupo etc. Nurg (talk) 08:46, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Hastings Coat of Arms
editI think that it would be good to include an image of the Hastings Coat-of-Arms in the basic infobox, similar to what has been done on the Wellington page, and since there is a section in the article regarding the coat of arms it would be ideal if there was an image of it to aid the reader's interpretation of the description.
There are images available online of the coat of arms at, e.g. at Heraldry wiki and the Hastings District Council website, but I don't have the copyright or permission to upload it.
