Additions to the Wiki page of Dr. Hazel Nell Dukes
editHi, I am currently a member of the NAACP and, since I have met Dr. Dukes a few times, I wanted to share additions here that I hope other editors could review and pull in.
Addition to "Recognition and public image" Section:
"In January of 2023, Dr. Dukes helped swear in Kathy Hochul as New York’s first woman governor." (please add prior to the paragraph beginning on "In March 2023.")

- I've added this, somewhat rewritten. I left out the part about Hochul being the first woman governor in NY—significant, to be sure, and certainly appropriately mentioned in the Hochul article, but not having any bearing on the nature of the honor to Dukes of being asked to perform this function. My removal of the Migdol Organization mention
editIn this edit I've removed the mention of the Migdol Organization from a sentence reading "In 2019, a plaque honoring Dukes was placed on 137th Street and Adam Clayton Boulevard in Harlem, by the Migdol Organization." There is no other mention of the Migdol Organization on Wikipedia. I checked Google to see whether they're at least a noteworthy organization that this bestowal of an honor is worth mentioning. I discovered that coverage focuses on two things: the posting by this company (it's a private business, a real estate developer, not a civic organization or anything like that) of the plaque ... and a bribery scandal. Gerald Migdol pled guilty in 2022 to a quid-pro-quo arrangement involving campaign contributions to New York's eventual lieutenant governor Brian Benjamin, who resigned after his own indictment,[1][2] in exchange for the steering of state funds to the company.
I'm not prepared to conclude that the mounting of the plaque was, therefore, not a genuine honor reflecting Dukes' good works worthy of continued recognition in the article. However, in light of the more recent events, the mention of Migdol seems to detract from that honor, so I'm removing the mention and leaving the plaque to stand on its own.
I'm bringing this up just in case anyone feels otherwise, either about the removal of the Migdol attribution or about continuing to mention the plaque. Largoplazo (talk) 23:37, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
