Just to clarify the last edit:
The first Schneiden was documented in 1530 - that is most certainly the 16th century, and most certainly NOT Medieval period.
The source for 1530 being the 16th century...I'm not sure. The source for 1530 not being during the Medieval period - see articles on Medieval period and on the early modern period.
