editI believe this article is about a notable subject, as state roads, expressways, interstate highways, and even some county roads have articles on Wikipedia. Although this is a proposed highway, there has been much media coverage on this as well as a couple of other proposed highways. I reside in Polk county, the northern terminus of this proposed highway and there have been at least two townhall-style discussions between residents and FDOT officials concerning this. Likewise, there have been articles in the local media (newspapers, tv, etc) when the status quo has changed and new information is available concerning this parkway. I believe this subject is notable as a result of the aforementioned precedent of covering interstates, expressways, and state highways along with the likelihood of it coming into fruition. This is not some highway which someone pulled out of their head one day...FDOT has done studies concerning impacts, there is a corridor for this highway mapped out, and there have been meetings with citizens regarding the impacts of this proposed highway. As I am new to creating Wikipedia articles, I was unable to insert a picture which abides by the licensing rules(due to my uncertainty), nor was I able to link the article to any other roads or lists. I do not know how much more I can expand the article, but at the very least it should be labeled a stub if administrators believe this is too short. I have sent an email to the mentioned HEART organization regarding the creation of this article, and perhaps one of them could expand this article a little. I would appreciate any comments by an administrator before removing this article as to why this should be deleted. It would seem as though it is notable. IBstupid (talk) 08:18, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say that the article is too short, and is actually fairly organized and informational. My only concern is about notability. Streets, roads, and highways are by default considered notable, however I am not sure if a proposed highway is or not. I did tag the article because it does fall into a bit of "gray area" and the decision is up the the administrator to review the case. If you are able to provide reliable, third-party references it would most definitely ascertain notability. Bvlax2005 (talk) 09:25, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'll remove the speedy (not admin) because there are many third party unimpeachable reliables. This is a clear keeper under the GNG - it's nicknamed I-85 because it's supposed to go between I-75 and I-95 - this is a very big project. (There are notes already, the only problem might be reliability and noteworthiness of the sources) About 50 gnews hits, only a few false pos. The creator might want to select some of the news stories to expand the article. Too tired to work on article at moment. John Z (talk) 11:12, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- This highway is to be constructed by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (essentially, the state of Florida) and operated as a parkway. It is not to be an Interstate highway nor will it be named I-85 (which already exists from Virginia to Alabama). Like other Turnpike Enterprise projects, it should be given a name "State Road XXX" (for instance "State Road 585") and be signed "Toll State Road XXX" (ie "Toll State Road 585")...for further info, see the section "Other Roads" under Florida's Turnpike. Also, three of six references in the article were news organizations:one from the Lakeland Ledger newspaper and 2 from Tampa Bay Online (a website jointly operated by the Tampa Tribune newspaper and News Channel 8[local NBC affiliate]). Finally, to address concerns, I have posted a proposed road header on the article. IBstupid (talk) 03:46, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
