Mix-up with film?

The plot section in the musical article seems to mix the stage play with the film, including talking about the dvd commentary. I've not seen the play, so splitting this out is difficult. Any fans around who can do it? Or should they be merged?Yobmod (talk) 12:29, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Language: German

I think it should be made note that the German in the movie is not actually German. It's just something that kind of sounds like German. I don't know how to say that adequately though.

Relevance?

In the reception section-

Mitchell said that his performance on the Late Show with David Letterman as Hedwig was interesting: "During rehearsal, a disembodied voice emanating from the control booth gently told me that I couldn't rip my wig off during the song ("Tear Me Down"). I asked why, but there was only silence from on high. So when we taped, I ripped it off after the song. They edited it out. I think they wanted people to think I was a woman and not a man in drag."[citation needed]

It is relevant because it shows the reception to the topics addressed in the film on a smaller level (i.e. Hedwig removing her artifice at the end of the film and presenting in a more conventionally masculine way vs. the actor having to keep up the illusion of being a woman/female to not upset the viewers at home with the idea of trans or drag.)

This also gives context for showing how reasonable or not the in-movie critical reception towards Hedwig is such as the transphobic headline towards the end of the film "Limo 'Lady' Talks," by showing a real-world difficulty faced while promoting the film. Gay male to Transgender Woman to Gay male

Fixed error in less paragraph identifying Hedwig as a "gay male". I think that might be debatable given that the Hedwig character is one half of a fractured personality that is unified with the other half in the finale. One of these halves is represented as male and the other is represented as female. The unified whole personality in the finale seems to have a masculine appearance. This, in my mind, makes it uncertain if Hedwig is truly a transgender person or, to take it a step further, an individual. I'm not sure which characterization (transgender, gay male, queer, etc) might be accurate. I might be inclined to suggest that it's a futile and unimportant distinction to make given that it makes little difference to the plot or subtext. I'm not sure that the current distinction of "genderqueer" in this article is even necessary or able to be definitely determined. Feggart (talk) 23:30, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
