Eddies "Condition"
editYeah, i'm not asking for a trivia blurb, but what was Eddie suffering from again? Something to do with the Kidneys? --293.xx.xxx.xx 07:19, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes it was a kidney problem. I don't think they ever said the medical condition was called though.
- Looks like renal failure, which can cause growth disorder. --Edokter (Talk) 00:50, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Organizing the Dinner play by play
editThere has got to be a better way to organize the information, it's rambling. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.96.171.111 (talk • contribs)
- Agreed. The official episode recap is available at http://www.fox.com/hellskitchen/recaps/301.htm if you would like to rework the article. Please feel free! --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 01:24, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think the episode recaps from the Top Chef articles have a workable format that would be useful here. Wl219 06:05, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
About the Progress Table
editAs a faithful Hell's Kitchen fan, and a Wikipedian, I would like to see a little more consolidation between all the progress tables for the last two Hell's Kitchen seasons. I think that the arrangement of this article's progress table is satisfactory and easy to understand, and makes looking at the other past two tables far too complex and non-uniform. For instance, in the table for season 2, none of the competing chefs are in the order of their respective teams. Dark Observer 21:49, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'll try to work on that tonight. While I didn't create any of the tables (heck, I wasn't even a Wikipedian until a few months ago), I can at least help bring some continuity across the three seasons. Windmillninja 00:15, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- I just have to laugh at the person who was filling out the table prematurely tonight since they were completely wrong on Aaron getting kicked out since he wasn't even nominated.
- I disagree with you... I think we should cut out the winning team and losing team colors. I had a real hard time looking at it... 130.13.114.251 02:28, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm wondering if it's best to use the black boxes for contestants no longer in the competition because: (a) there is always the improbable however slightly possibility (especially in game shows these days) that a contestant might return, (b) any empty space following a red box should imply that the chef is no longer competing, (c) black is not aesthetically pleasing when placed next to the other colors, and (d) adding another color component seems superfluous for someone trying to analyze the chart. AISept8 07:33, 12 June 2007 (UTC)AISept8
- I've modified the table here to represent the way that most other progressive-elimination reality show tables are shown in WP, using colspan and light grey to "remove" them from the rest of the season. Should they come back for some reason, we'll fix it then. --Masem 13:52, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- Also, should we really credit the guys with a win on the first dinner service. I mean Chef Ramsey did say there was no winner, merely that the girls were worse, but then again a losing team implies a winning team, so what do you all think about that? AISept8 18:12, 13 June 2007 (UTC)AISept8
- Basically, the guys weren't the losers that challenge. Given that we're trying to retain neutrality on WP, that effectively makes them the winners in that they didn't have to send off anyone from their team. This is in comparison to the time where Ramsey said both teams lost and had to nominate one of their own. If a different mechanic comes along this season, we may be able to reevaluate this but I'd say that yes, the guys "won" for purposes of WP factuality. --Masem 18:42, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Okay guys, I see that you have all thoughoughly anayzed and debated every single thing about the table(s), and thats good, but the problem was that NONE of the seasons use the same colour code!!!! They are all different! Why are the all chefs put in alphabetical order? Why not just make a red-team catagory on the top and a plain, simple, blue-team catagory on the bottom of the chart/tabling system? Wouldn't that be easier? Here, Bonnie-Tiffany on the top and Aaron-Vinnie on the bottom, or, visa versa? Sorry. But I don't know how to work the code for the table(s). Dark Observer 03:12, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- I tried to fix the color issues today, but the order of the contestants is done the same way nearly every other in-progress reality TV show is done, with eliminated contestants in order at the bottom, and the rest in alphabetic order at the top as to so no favoritism to the remaining contestants. --Masem 03:27, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm wondering with episode 308, is it best to cite Bonnie as BoW and Jen as LOSE, I mean was it considered a losing service? AISept8 00:55, 31 July 2007 (UTC)AISept8
It's better now, but can someone please lowercase the words on the progress table? please? 130.13.125.225 02:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, guys, this is what you should do: make it lowercase, only use a Yellow for 'best of worst' (as bw instead of bow), Gray for 'out', red for 'losing teams' (put nothing in the box), and Blue for 'winning teams' (put nothing in the box). HOW SIMPLE IS THAT?! Michael Houang 06:50, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Grammar: past or present tense?
editWhen I was reading through and editing the episode summaries for grammar and clarity, I kept wanting to write in the present tense instead of all past tense, because many of the phrases sounded awkward that way. A few of them even had present tense verbs inadvertently sprinkled in, probably because it would sound so unnatural to speak these sentences out loud using the proper past tense grammar. Indeed, it should either be all one or the other, and it would be tedious work, but it seems so strange to read entire paragraphs in past tense.
When I got to Episode 6, I decided to edit it into the PRESENT tense, so that everyone could see how it reads differently. I think you'll agree that it seems more natural and is easier to read through. Also, if you look at the official FOX site recaps [1], you'll find they're all written in the present tense as well. 67.190.166.47 15:04, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think you're right: WP's Manual of Style for writing fiction states that events should be present tense. Now, mind you, this is a reality TV show so it's not fiction, but given that the WP Television Project generally subscribes to this same MOS, I would say stick with the same approach. Notably, the WAF says that present tense helps the reader to experience the work as it is described, so I would say that applies here. --Masem 15:12, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Episodes Chart
editThe colors in the chart aren't correct; the green for the winner is a different shade than the legend, and one shade of blue is used twice for 2 different things.Landroo (talk) 12:14, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Are they really airing eleven episodes? OR Could that "not make it through dinner service" from the July 23 promo mean that a double boot is coming, with one leaving at dinner service, as promised and one leaving at the traditional ELIMINATION CEREMONY? User:ScottAHudson
Succeeded by Season 4
editI've seen nothing to announce that there is GOING to be a season 4 of Hell's Kitchen listed on any of the pages. Shouldn't this be changed to TBA?
A search for contestants was announced tonight. Bunnygod888 04:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Hell's Kitchen Trivia Section?
editIs it worth creating a trivia / firsts section at all?
- Josh was first contestant kicked out (and his jacket taken) DURING dinner service.
- Aaron was second contestant forced to withdraw due to medical condition.
- Hell's Kitchen opened once for breakfast in season 3 to serve 100 army and navy service personnel.
- Melissa in Season 3 was NOT the first contestant to switch teams. Heather in season 2 was told to switch teams when the other team lost two members in a row and contest became extremely uneven.
and so on and so forth... ? -- Kschang77 14:58, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- No. Such items when notable (Josh's elim for example) should be incorporated into the episode descriptions but trivia sections with records like this are highly frowned upon (see WP:Trivia). Second-time events are non-notable (Aaron's leaving, or Melissa's switch). This is to help prevent trivia creep which easily happens with many reality TV show articles. --Masem 15:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Episode Summaries
editWhat happened to the summaries? User:ScottAHudson
I added the information back, but something is not right in the formatting of it... Bunnygod888 04:45, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
I went back and fixed the formatting. I also added a note in the HTML source code requesting editors to build consensus before deleting the recaps. Frankly they probably could do with some pruning but I don't think they should go entirely. Wl219 04:57, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm really in favor of ditching the bulk of the summaries. Since each ep is recapped at least in a couple of non-WP places (Fox, TWOP, etc.), I believe that either:
- We ditch the recap approach altogether, and leave key details (who got reward, who won/lost/BoW, nominated, and sent home, and a brief description of the challenge and dinner service "twist" should there be one.
- If the recaps are really necessary by consensus, I think it may be wise to consider either moving the recaps to a separate page or creating an episode page for each episode.
- It's probably a good idea to see what the majority thinks, but personally, I think that trying to say too much will make it difficult to make this a GA/FA if we ever try to go there. --Masem 05:32, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Should the spoilers be posted in the article?
editApparently there was a leak, and the winner is already revealed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.226.248.34 (talk • contribs)
- I think it's fair to include that there was a betting scandal for this season that revealed the winner (there's an article somewhere for that, I think over at TWOP there's a link), but I would not spell out who won until after next week. --Masem 05:05, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Results
editWhy are the results there when it didn't even happen yet? This affects the show because I'm gonna tell everyone I know and no one is gonna watch the show!
Well if no one is going to watch the show, the only people to blame is FOX for having their staff pretty much spoiling it for the viewers, so don't blame yourself 69.115.122.235 02:08, 14 August 2007 (UTC)AISept8
Team Color Coding
editI think next season's page should use the team colors for the chef boxes. We can color them in on the day the show premieres after it airs? Here is an example: User:ScottAHudson/Hell'sKitchen(US-Season3)Test. User:ScottAHudson
Regurgitated Dog S***
editI am not overly fond of swearing, but censoring it bothers me more. Was this aired censored this way? Is that enough of a reason to keep it censored? I've seen most of what little I've seen of HK on cable, where there's no censorship. --Steven Fisher (talk) 22:07, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- It aired censored and uncensored depending on where it aired. Sinde Wikipedia is not censored, I've changed it accordingly. — Edokter • Talk • 22:27, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Josh's Elimination Notes
editDid he really say "You fucking useless sack of shit?" I saw the episode but can't remember. Stjimmy61892 21:42, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Mary-Ann Salcedo
editDoes anyone know why this was her last seasonas a Sous chef? Facebookery (talk) 04:03, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
BoB?
editIs BoB best of the best? --72.79.201.217 (talk) 23:15, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Progress Table
editI was wondering if I could change the color scheme to the one currently posted in the season 4 page of Hell's Kitchen (if it hasn't been reverted). It is much more organized and easier to look at. Also, the table will be less distorted by the Chef Ramsey's Reason section, because I will move them under each corresponding episode summary. Andrew097 (talk) 05:32, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- Probably easier to direct the talk to one page. So let's take it to the Season 4 talk page. Padillah (talk) 12:22, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Josh's Photo Being Burned
editI just got done watching a season 3 marathon on Fox Reality Channel, and as the article says, Josh never had a photo burning segment that episode. However, the recap in the final episode does show his jacket being hung on a spike (but I don't recall if it shows Ramsay in the process of "spiking" it) and his photo being burned. Does this bear mentioning? Hurricane Angel Saki (talk) 05:35, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like non-notable trivia to me. Maybe if a source mentions it. DP76764 (Talk) 15:54, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- If it's non-notable trivia, and it probably is, I must point out I have no idea what this statement means:
"[...]and Josh's photo was shown out on the street with his suitcase." Because I've seen both the recap and that episode. No scene like this was shown, to my knowledge. And on one more instance (even though it's non-notable as well), Josh was eliminated and not only did not get the full "elimination sequence", but also did not get the flashback montage all eliminated black team contestants got (when they show some scenes with the eliminated contestant). Hurricane Angel Saki (talk) 07:51, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Epilogue
editBonnie Muirhead's status. the epilogue for season one up contains information on runner-up Ralph Pagano's status. Is there anyway to include information on runner-up Bonnie's status?Tlatseg (talk) 22:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Josh was kicked by Ramsay in the eight episode
editSo it should be green, not tomato since it wasn't nominated by anyone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.155.160.126 (talk) 01:22, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Vinnie Was Nominated by Ramsay, not by Rock
editIt wasn't green and I rectified it since I was watching this Hell's Kitchen episode — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.155.160.126 (talk) 00:55, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Colour contrast problems
editIt seems that this article is using colours in the infobox which don't satisfy Wikipedia's accessibility guidelines. The contrast between the foreground colour and the background colour is low, which means that it may be difficult or impossible for people with visual impairments to read it.
To correct this problem, a group of editors have decided to remove support for invalid colours from Template:Infobox television season and other television season templates after 1 September 2015. If you would still like to use custom colours for the infobox and episode list in this article after that date, please ensure that the colours meet the WCAG AAA standard.
To test whether a colour combination is AAA-compliant you can use Snook's colour contrast tool. If your background colour is dark, then please test it against a foreground colour of "FFFFFF" (white). If it is light, please test it against a foreground colour of "000000" (black). The tool needs to say "YES" in the box for "WCAG 2 AAA Compliant" when you input the foreground and the background colour. You can generally make your colour compliant by adjusting the "Value (%)" fader in the middle box.
Please be sure to change the invalid colour in every place that it appears, including the infobox, the episode list, and the series overview table. If you have any questions about this, please ask on Template talk:Infobox television season. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:30, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
