This is an encycolopedia entry, we don't need description of the story in fansite style. It needs cutting down. There is also a serious problem with crap like this: "it was cute when they sang it but scary when she sings it in this scene" - change this please

Novel

edit

why is there no mention of the novel?

Reception

edit

How popular is it, what have critics said?

Kanji translation.

edit

Would someone care to translate Ai's "Ippen, shindemiru?" speach to a more litteral translation? It doesn't matter much, but I think it would be better of as a true translation instead of a common fan-sub.

Futakomori?

edit

Is the second season (Futakomori), a prequel or a sequel? From the looks of the first few episodes it could be either. Episode one hints at a sequel when Ren or Hone says "she's been through alot" or something like that. But the second episode hints at a prequel, when Wannyudo tells about Ai's ability to she the past (he says: "she can show us"). -- Psi edit 18:42, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would speculate that it's a sequel; there are slight differences in Ai's behaviour in Futakomori as opposed to in the first series, which I believe are due to her having remembered her past and overcome her grudge; she is somewhat more expressive and human. Art is life and life is an art. 23:32, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree, she's acting more human now, strongly implies that this is a sequel... I can't actually see any proof that this would be a prequel... "She can show us" might just imply that Wanyuudou knows more about Ai then Ren and Onna does.
Yeah there's no where to go in this discussion. The fact that Ai acts more human is enough to show that this is a sequel. -- Psi edit 16:21, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is definitely a sequel since in one of the episodes there is a mention of tsugumi and the Detective reads a book written by her father Binarymoron (talk) 17:09, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Enma Ai

edit

The name Enma Ai has a very interesting translation. Enma - Devil, Ruler of Hades Ai - Among the many translations of Ai is this one Ai - Accomplice So one can say Enma Ai means Devils Accomplice. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.18.60.24 (talk) 13:30, 14 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Wow, nice name indeed

Enma=Yama=Grim reaper not devil/satan/demon/other evil related entities

Ruler of Hades i dont think so Enma is the lord of death or the bringer of death but does not rule over them there is no concept like that in Jap mythology —Preceding unsigned comment added by Binarymoron (talkcontribs) 18:58, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

he is the "death lord" and no he is not the "lord of hell" either

Ai= Accomplice

so the name stands for Death lord's Accomplice

for reference check this wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enma

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yama

the basic concept is that Death is not something evil but a part of life Binarymoron (talk) 18:45, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Third Season?

edit

I was watching the last episode of futakomori and was wondering if anyone thinks there will be a third season, or if there is any confirmation of such.

I haven't watched till the end yet but reading the article, it leaves speculation for a third season, especially with Kikuri's mysterious appearance and role being a little "unfulfilled" in futakomori. What do the rest of you guys think?

pmc 06:11, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ai seems to be gone for good. Unless a third chapter was all about flashbacks or something forces Ai to return, how could there be a third chapter? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aebliss (talkcontribs) 06:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
You're forgetting Kikuri's bigger role. She seems to be a pest most of the time in the show. Perhaps a little more detailed past describing the events in her life? And how she became what she truly is...

pmc 00:36, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure that's necessary. She may be little more than a golem, created by the lord of Hell; a tool with just enough independent personality to fool people, yet not enough willpower to resist her master's wishes. At any rate, unless the company that produced Jigoku shoujo announces there will be a third season, there won't be. Art is life and life is an art. 22:19, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Of course that is unquestionable. But in hopes for a third season to surface, it is still in a logic state of mind to say that there is a new "Hell Girl", and like it was stated here before, it definitely isn't Enma Ai and not necessarily should be her at all. It could even be Kikuri, controlled by the Hell Lord himself. But maybe she can even partake on the job at her own will. But it all falls to the team's decision, duh.

_______________________________________________

the story has left us with the benefit of doubt if the company they can make a new third season but Enma Ai WILL NOT BE RETURNING since it is shown that she passes on(she is converted to cherry blossoms) and is shown to cross over thisis confirmed by her three helpers in the conversation just before the end.

Also in the last scene an unidentified girl is seen to access the Hell Girl site and the voice of Kikuri is heard saying "I will deliver your vengence".

so we can safely say that she will be the next Hell girl unless the writer or the company decide otherwise59.92.51.64 (talk) 11:05, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Heh, I was right. Obviously Enma Ai wouldn't return, who in a sensible state of mine who revive her after death? Her story's over... that's it. I surely hope that small girl ISN'T the new Hellgirl... she's far too annoying to be one. - pmc (talk) 08:32, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lord of Hell

edit

I haven't watch the 2nd season yet but is the lord of hell really Lucifer or Belzeebub?

He isn't identified by any actual name. The character's voice is the same as that of the Spider/giant jellyfish thing and Wanyuudou just calls him the lord of Hell.

though all mythologies have a few similarities.....

___________________________________________________________________

Jap mythology isnt similar to Christian mythology but very similar to Hindu mythology they dont have a devil/lucifer/satan as a main evil entity they have entities known as asuras/demons/rakshasas

hell and heaven are just places that maintain the balance so to speak and have nothing to do with evil and good (except for the kind of ppl who are sentenced to the place) there is NO WAR between HEAVEN AND HELL as in Christian mythology

God is the master of all; heaven and hell are under him

for further references check out this wiki :

if u would scroll down a bit on those sites u'll find the jap version is not much different

so the answer is NOBinarymoron (talk) 18:39, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lord of Hell is Enma-daioh, or Enma for short, hence the name of Enma Ai. Shrine Maiden (talk) 14:23, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tsugumi/Ayumi?

edit

"In the second season, she makes a quick appearance, showing that her connection with Hell Girl still exists. At the same time, it seems that she has a mutual relationship with Kikuri (revealed in the last episode of the second season)."

Isn't this should be move into Tsugumi's section? IIRC, Ayumi makes no appearance in the second season and the one who talked with Kikuri's reflection on the crossroad is clearly Tsugumi. (She calls Hajime Hajime-chan, "Hajime-chan wo shijite") --58.9.109.152 17:06, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Translating/transliterating the title

edit

Exactly why is it that other sources spell the title as "Jigoku Shoujo"? I find this quite strange.

Nbahn 16:10, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is actually a removal of the usage of the :ō". When used without it, the letter leaves the vocal "u" behind. This is evident by many other series or Japanese names in general.

Episodes

edit

I'm in the process of creating separate pages for the episodes, as the lists make the main article look cluttered. Additionally, I've reformatted the episode lists in accordance to WP:EPISODE and WP:NPOV, as the formerly used episode list format included a lot of unecessary elements and were written in a non-neutral fashion. Can someone help out by filling out the missing episode summaries? I've finished creating the List of Jigoku Shōjo episodes, and will be working on list for the second season tomorrow. Scratch that; I just finished creating the page: List of Jigoku Shōjo Futakomori episodes. It has no episode summaries because I haven't seen much of the second season yet. --SilentAria talk 14:34, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I may request a move back. "Hell Girl" is still Jigoku Shōjo as far as I can see.

The result of the proposal was move

Face it, the real name is Jigoku Shōjo. Animax calls it Jigoku Shōjo, and just because it is "Americanized" into "Hell Girl", it doesn't mean it should be officially recognised as "Hell Girl". Most of the time, and there are countless examples, if the Japanese CREATORS want it to be recognised overseas by an English name, they will use the English name in Japan even if it goes alongside the real name in hiragana/kanji symbols. If they don't write the name in English on the titles, then they want it recognised overseas by the Japanese name; Yu Yu Hakusho is a great example; otherwise it would have been called "Ghost Files" or something. Also, FUNimation actually includes the Japanese trademark title logo in their own logo, so the kanji symbols for "Jigoku Shōjo" still appear beside the words "Hell Girl". Anyway, it's the opinion of the JAPANESE as to the name of the show, as they CREATED it. It always has to happen America's bloody way doesn't it? ætərnal ðrAعon 10:54, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

BTW no-one discussed it on the talk page so I'll put it on WP:RM to make it Jigoku Shōjo again unless someone comments soon ætərnal ðrAعon 10:59, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Animax's official websites (the most widely aired version of the series) as well as official romanizations of the merchandise itself in Japan has always referred to the series by its original name (Jigoku Shōjo). A regional difference will not change the actual name of the franchise (Jigoku Shōjo) which is still by far and true the most comprehensive and widely-used variation of its title. ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 21:25, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

About that move

edit

Er, you all started making comments after I requested the move. Is there some sort of template that I could put to prevent another debate like this again? ætərnal ðrAعon 10:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:RM. It has a template for setting up a move discussion. The article is at it's right name now (Hell Girl). TJ Spyke 05:24, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
