assists?

edit

Do we have any sources for the assists? I've got no problem with them being in the table if we do, but if not they should be removed. WFCforLife (talk) 15:07, 28 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Career stats table

edit

There's a long-standing agreement at WT:FOOTY that we don't include assists in career stats tables unless they're something that's officially recorded by the governing body e.g. as they are at MLS. So the removal of those is in line with project consensus.

However, the league division that the player was playing in is, in my view, informative to the reader, giving context to the bare appearances and goals figures. In addition, the stats table had been stable since 2010 with the league division column.

The editor removing the column is keen to standardise all stats tables for a particular club's players. This is admirable, but I'd suggest it'd be better to standardise on a format that's adds to the table's value to the reader rather than subtracting from it.

I'll notify other involved editors that I've raised the matter here. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:13, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I would agree entirely with this. The potential exists for a player to transfer and this require information to be removed from a table to meet the "style" for that club. A year later the same player transfers again, this time to a club that does require that information - all with the danger that the information is lost or an error takes place. Given that there are examples of players playing for the same club in at least three divisions in England - and at clubs that, frankly, an editor interested in a specific club might not know anything very much about. The division information therefore adds, in some cases significantly, to the information presented by the table. Blue Square Thing (talk) 17:17, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
There was indeed agreement at WP:FOOTY over the formatting of tables - assists were not included, divisions were. Editing in any other manner is against consensus. GiantSnowman 17:55, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
